Just curious: I've been reading a little bit about moon phases and astrology and that days can be divided up into segments, each ruled by a planet so that if you want to work a certain kind of magic you can choose the best time of day etc. This is all quite new to me but very interesting, and I was wondering if anyone ever waited for the "best" time to do a Tarot reading.
e.g. waiting for a full moon or new moon, or doing readings at sunset or sunrise, or coinciding with a certain astrological event etc. Also, if you're reading on a particular subject, i.e. a relationship, could you read at a certain time that is good for relationship readings?
I suspect that reading this way isn't awfully practical and probably impossible for professional readers who read when the customer is in front of them, but I like the thought of it.
Does anyone have any thoughts about good times to do readings? Or the best time to do a reading on a certain subject?

i think of tarot a lot. i do readings 1) when i feel i have the energy to concentrate properly and be receptive 2) when i am not too upset about an event i want to read about, i found out that if i am too upset the cards don't make any sense at all 3) when i feel up to it and not too upset, i still have to get "the space" to read ie no children around, hubby in a loving mood, cats sick or jumping on the walls etc. see, we have this "all open" kind of house with almost no privacy so if it is busy and noisy somewhere, it is busy and noisy everywhere.
so sorry about the Moon, really, but if i still have to arrange my schedule according to the Moon phases, i guess i will read ...hum... once every three or four years?! :P
but your thread is nevertheless very interesting, i look forward to reading clever and on-topic comments (unlike mine...)

I like to do readings for specific astrological occurences. For example, I did a reading at the recent full lunar eclipse, one on December 21 (The winter solstice), I generally do a reading on the 21st-22nd of every month as the sun changes signs of the zodiac as a monthly reading, instead of the beginning of each calender month, tho I do plan to do a reading on New Years Eve as a year ahead reading for myself, and whenever I realize that there is a full moon, I like to do a reading, if for no other reason than the moon is full and I feel like I may be more in touch with my intuition.
These are not hard and fast rules that I live by tho. I dont always have time, dont remember other times, and sometimes, just dont feel like it.
I'm not sure that I get more acurate or insightful readings during these times, but it is nice to feel like there is a connection, however brief, with the universe for the moment in time when I lay down the cards.

Practicality is definitely important - especially when there are so many other factors to doing a reading.
Pook - I like the idea of this...I suppose it's just the feeling that you're keeping in touch with these huge universal rhythms, in tune with the sun & moon & stars. It may not add anything but it's a nice thought. I might try and schedule something in - especially now I have my new Elfin diary which tells you when all these things occur :)
Thanks for your responses. Maybe now this thread has been bumped, others will have something to say...?
Kind thoughts,
Pip
