About two weeks ago I had the Tower come up in my readings a few times. I was quite obviously worried about what it could be, and upon a few throwings of the cards, I was stumped as to what it could refering to. I asked several questions as to what it could be refering to and got good readings for things I thought it may be. And though the Tower appeared, the surrounding cards were good. So I was stumped.
Then it happened.
The Blue Screen Angel of Death appeared. It harkened unto my laptop and my laptop followed her home.
My hard drive crashed. I lost everything I had on there for the last two years. Like the Babylonians in the bible, in trying to resurect the tower, it turned to dust in my hands. There was going to be no system restore. I had to reformat the hard drive. I reformatted it. I had it running again, for a while, but everything on it was gone. I thought of the Tower, total destruction. But that would not have been total destruction, no. A system restore would have been a rebuilding of my tower, as would starting over with a reformatted HDD.
It happened again. It crashed again, same error. This was not the work of a virus, it was hardware failure. My poor baby, she wasn't sick, she was dying of old age. My baby was gone for good. The destruction would not have been complete if I got her going again. But as the meaning of the Tower is comeplete and inexorable destruction, to clear the way for the new, it dawned on me that there is often a silver lining to the destruction the Tower brings. In this case, the lightening struck two weeks before my extended warrenty expires.
I get a new laptop. I get a new laptop. I get a new laptop.

A total crash *before* the warranty runs out! Wow, you are truly blessed!
It's been noted before on AT that desktop tower failures have been forecast with the Tower card. We just have to convert that vertical/structural symbolism to laptops somehow.
And backup regularly! What would be the card for that? 8 pentacles for burning lots of CDs?

that would do it: I said on another place, when I worked as a librarian I handled the computers in our branch. I told people repeatedly, the best way to keep their data safe was do three things: 1)back it up 2) back it up, and 3) back it up!
The WorldTree 8 of Pentacles has a two "bad" pentacles-one is a cracked disk, and the other is a chiesle slip. It might be your fault that things crash or it might be hardware, but it still can fail! Back up!!!

A memory stick. The new Tower? The Ace of wands? The Magician's wand? Empowering, in any case.

Ooh, what an interesting twist on the Tower!
Has the Tower ever meant other electronic items besides computers? What about an important email, or a phone call or something?

Is that why that box section of the computer is called the 'tower'? Ours has crashed several times (what a pain to recover from!), I don't know that I'd want to do a reading on our computer's state, specifically--might jinx it, you know? LOL
Just out of curiosity, was there an 8 of Wands in the spread also? That means internet connections for me.

Really? How does it mean that for you?

I can see the link between the 8 of wands and internet connections. The 8 of wands has a connotation of both communications and also of speed. An internet conection is the passage of electronic "packets" of info thru lines. If the 8 of wands reversed came up I could see it as the connection going down. Mostly I've had it mean phone calls, emails and instant messages from people about the issue at hand.

Yep, communications, rapid speed, and the pure visual of straight 'cords' with connectors on the ends of them. Also travel and movement. It just seemed a natural, out of all the cards in the deck.
