Sometimes when I'm busy I'll "record" a dream, meditation, or memory onto a card. This usually happens when I don't have enough time to write about it in my journal and/or I want to explore it later.
This is the process I go through:
I. Shuffle the deck thorougly while thinking about what I want to preserve.
II. Fan deck out and choose a card.
III. Hold card onto my "third eye," feel the energy flow from it to the card, and recite "I preserve this [dream/meditation/memory] onto this card."
IV. Turn the card over and ponder the singificance for a short time.
V. Put the card away so I can explore it later.
I have a couple of questions for everyone out there:
Do you think this could "harm" some of my cards?
Could it change the meanings of cards?
Anybody else do this with a more formal method and/or other types of spells?
Thanks

I don't think you can change the meanings of the cards by this or any other means. They are what they are. But mightn't it skew yoour interpretations later on? If you have a dream about work but you pulled the Lovers would you be reminded of that dream everytime you had the Lovers in a reading?
But if you are worried about it why don't you pick a card that reminds you of the dream instead of picking a random one? In spellwork (at least my spellwork), I find a card or cards that are appropriate for the type of spell before I start. By me picking it myself I know the energy is focused exactly where I want it to go. Of course, one could argue that if I really believed the Tarot worked I would trust that I could pick the right card without looking, but I don't like arguing with myself. Who would like to argue with me?
Peace,
April

I agree with April that it shouldn't change the meanings of the cards themselves, but they certainly can affect your interpretations of the cards. Afterall, aren't the meaning of the cards often times what we make them to be? Of course there's the root of the "standard definition" of each card...but we all personalize it to a certain extent. In this sense, the cards' meanings can change...but only because your perception of it may change. That then may reflect on your readings and why certain cards pop out at a given reading. Eh, I hope I'm making sense here! :\
But overall, what an interesting way to preserve your dreams- by recording it into the cards. I've never tried that before. Hmm...if you're worried about the cards, you can try designating just one deck to use for recording dreams? That deck can then become unique to you...or something. :)

I find your idea very interesting. It's probably very helpful to link memories to images that way. I might have to give that a try.
I do agree that it might change how you interpret the cards because of the memories attached to them. Do you find that sometimes you end up attaching a particular memory/dream/meditation to a card that doesn't really seem to relate? Maybe attaching it to a card that you have consciously selected due to its similarity would enhance interpretations rather than the potential to confuse that selecting randomly gives. (I hope that made sense.)
One option that might be a good solution is to use a specific deck for spellwork/memory retention and only for those purposes. That way, the other stuff won't get confused into your readings.
