I did readings for several friends recently. They were all in the room for eachother's readings, and I did one right after the other (4 total). Interestingly, there were 3 or 4 cards that showed up in 2-3 people's readings in different positions. Everyone thought that their reading was accurate, even frighteningly so, which indicates that the cards must have related to their questions. I'm curious, though, about the repeated cards. Do you think there was some "vibe" from these people all being present that caused this? Or do you think that somehow I was affecting the readings? I guess it's a question of whether the repetition had to do with the reader or the readees, and I'm wondering if other people have had similar experiences. It would have been helpful for me to do a personal reading that same day to see if the same cards showed up, but I didn't because I needed a bit of a break!

Quite often when I'm doing a series of readings, such as at a party or fair, I'll have the same cards come up again and again in readings. I thought perhaps I wasn't shuffling enough, but I shuffle like a gambler, riffling the cards and then working them together with a bridge. I shuffle at least 7 times before each reading. At times after a particularly troublesome reading I'll sort the deck back into order and then shuffle again. But the same cards will keep coming up!
The readings are generally very accurate, enough to make some of the more conservative guests a bit nervous, especially if they just think it's a game or a con. And usually the cards that keep coming up have relevance to a situation in my life as well.
I've found when reading for others, the cards are talking to me as well.

I posted this on another thread...but when I was doing readings for some family members, a simple "past, present, future" reading...
Two of my cousins who are sisters got the exact same cards in the exact same positions, only exactly reversed.
One sister had 2 cards upright and one reversed, and for the other sister, those same 2 cards were reversed, and the reversed one was upright.
I had shuffled very well, and even done a reading for someone else in between.
We were all very intrigued and wondered if this meant something. I had no idea at the time, and I still really don't.

the fact that these people were friends could indicate why these cards came up repeatedly. their lives overlap, therefore their readings will also, (to some extent). as friends they have some things in common, the readings were picking up on the common aspects.

Although I echo contradiction's sentiments about friends having overlapping lives, it is quite possible that doing multiple readings in rapid succession is not so much that the cards are not being shuffled entirely as much as the 'unasked' questions floating in the back of everyone's minds was the same (Is she pregnant? How will they ever pay for that huge house?) and the cards pick up on that stuff quite well.
In a party situation I always try NOT to have everyone privy to everyone else's readings for this reason. I also try to clear the cards between each person whenever or however I can.

Some very good points there and yes, friends would have a lot in common - naturally and know a lot about each other...
I once had a Celtic Cross come up twice in exactly the same postions - exactly - it was quite freaky. The deck had been shuffled and cut as usual. I sometimes have the same cards repeat themselves in differing positions if I ask the same question too soon after a reading.
