Working on Justice card (RWS) I noticed something: Justice sits between two pillars, with a curtain or veil hung between. Very similar to the High Priestess. I'm still pondering the connection, if there is one.
Any thoughts?

I agree with you, there is something important and similar between the two. I don't know the answer :D I'll ponder with you.

The similarity, I think, lies in the idea of offering a path that goes between two extremes. In Justice, this path is one of fairness and balance, keeping the scales even, not favoring one over the other. We walk between the pillars of justice, right?
But with the HPS, the road is between complete dark and complete light, and this is a very different sort of path. The HPS, of course, is connected with the moon. She's not in the hot, bright day, nor is she in the cold, dark night. She is under the light of the moon. *Special note: let's keep in mind that, symbolically the moon offers it's own light in the tarot. Factually, we know it's just reflected sunlight, but that's not what it's about as a symbol. Symbolically, it's about an alternative illumination.
You might say that with the HPS, we do not have our eyes open, nor do we have them shut--rather, we are seeing with alterntive vision. That inner eye of instinct, that secret path of magic and second sight that lies between. That path which can only be seen by the light of the moon. Go to either extreme--Light or dark, and the path vanishes from view. You'll get lost. Step into the middle and you see it and can follow it.
This is very similar to Justice, who also indicates, with the veil, that the path of absolute fairness is one that relies not on what you see with the naked eye. You have to use a different kind of vision to see the absolute truth and so know exactly how to even out those scales.
With both cards, it's a very delicate balance to achieve, and it's no wonder that our ladies sit still and quiet, veiled from distractions, right at the fulcrum.

Thank you, Thirteen! You verbalized what was just out of reach from my conscious thinking. The Middle Path, which Buddha talked of, is part of what I glean from your analysis.
Perhaps the Priestess is about seeing things in a more mystical sense, whereas Justice is about more worldly matters?
Also, Justice holds a sword, and scales which put me in the mind of certain suits. Does she show us that we must balance the rational mind (Swords) with the feeling heart (Cups)?
