I know that she has been discussed before but last night she came to me with a new twist....i was reading for myself, about the 20 lb weight gain i lived in my year in the USA (:-O) w/Morgan Greer deck and she was the last of 3 cards ( 7 sw/pg cups). The interpretation at first seemed obvious as she is seen eating grapes....
but i started thinking how else it can be read?
Vitamins? Minerals? ( the coins being earth related?)
How would any of you interpret her in a health oriented reading?
thank you,
Catti

Well, the falcon in RWS decks may be a possible clue...I'm thinking... maybe the idea of taming one's nature, discipline, also has a lot to do with the kinds of lifestyle choices we make when trying to incorporate more healthy behaviors in our lives. She's not feasting on the grapes either, but simply tasting some, enjoying the produce of her garden in moderation. Whole foods such as fruits and vegetables are excellent choices for healthy nutrition, but even fruit can be overindulged if we don't remember the lesson of the trained falcon. Dietary and healthy lifestyle changes are also a solitary discipline. We may find support from others, but no one can make us make these changes unless and until we're ready. WE have to decide inside ourselves that we're ready for change and we have to be the ones to follow through. So the more I think about it, the solitary woman in her garden, enjoying the fruits of her labor, exercising self-discipline and being mindful of herself is a great symbol for a person who is making these types of lifestyle changes.

Well, its not really a new twist. The Nine of Pentacles has long had the theme of gain, and even though it is usually material gain, it seems to be doubly accurate, considering all those new clothes you get to buy.

to me she seems to be someone who has really applied herself and worked her ass off to have reached the level of material comfort she now enjoys.
perhaps her appearance is suggesting that if this 20lbs is bothering you, you should draw on her drive and self motivation and apply yourself to a more disciplined way of life.
after all, i have never noticed this card depicting an overweight woman of a certain age!
just my opinions!

I always imagine her covered in fur and enjoying some good wine and good food! In a health concerned reading she might warn you to not let yourself get to comfortable. Enjoy the fruits of labour, but in good measure. Excess is overkill. She not only enjoys her comfy surroundings but als her own body and takes good care of herself.

Interesting posts.
A deeper level of this card, for me, is that although she has gained materially, she has had to make some sort of sacrifice for the gain (she stands alone in her garden). The bird on her hand symbolises freedom, intellect, creativity. But the Hood makes it subservient to it's mistress (the conscious will). For me, the alternative meaning to this card is therefore self discipline. Very fitting if you embarking on a diet! (as I always am!).

9 of Pents is one of my favourite cards. I think her very solitariness may mean that you are facing something only you can do for yourself. This is your quest, and yours alone.

When i look at 9 pentacles from Morgan-Greer deck, i see a beautiful lady from some hot and exotic country. I met few women like her - unfortunatly, many of them really gain weight later in life. Could it be a sign that you are constitutionally prone to overweight?
