Personal issues with the Emperor

Has anyone else taken issue with a certain card? I pulled the emperor a few times relating to someone in my life i was having issues with and now I somehow have associated this person as the Emperor. I have tried to get past this a few ways but now everytime I do a reading for someone and the Emperor comes up I just cannot get past this.
I know each card embodies both good and bad aspects and that I am concentrating too much on the bad. Any ideas how to get past this?
Anyone else have this issue and with which card?
PS - my soul card is the Empress

Yes..I usually cut on the sun..and the sun...and the sun.....and the sun.....but don't often find them in my readings for others.
I do find however that I will be talking with a client during a reading about what I see and a lil thing comes into my head that the reading I am doing is also significant for me in some way. Or something that I have been working on comes to me in a flash of light during a reading for another, which makes me want to rush off and study for a few weeks.....
Usually though if you keep getting the same card over like that, it has a message for you and it will keep popping up like that until you work on it and figure out what it means to you AT THIS TIME.....

If you are associating one card with a particular person and think of this person whenever you do a reading, I would agree you should study this card more closely. Examine its possible meanings in the abstract as well as how it applies to the personality [ask "thirteen" about this or read any posting on this card that she has commented upon :-) ].

Try visualizing the emperor as THE emperor and not some guy you know but the archetype itself so as to flush the notion of it being a person out of your mind and habits.

with me it is the page of cups, or more specifically the page reversed. i use to get this card all the time when doing a reading for my son's ex-girlfriend. now every time i see the card i can not help but think of her. it was a real good description of her, the girl was manipulative, backstabbing, unfaithful, etc....., i could go on for days but won't. over time, i have gotten to the point where, when i see the card in a reading (upright or reversed), she comes to mind then i push her out of the picture, but for a while, it took some work to concentrate on the reading at hand. it could be that there is still something you need to know, maybe this person is still on your mind and the cards are picking up on it, or maybe the card would have come up anyway and it reminds you of this person, the same way a song on the radio would. you never notice it, until you have something to associate it with. but to be safe i would spend some time trying to find out if there is something you are missing that you need to know.

I am sure it is not uncommon. We are all human and once we make an association we remember it. Some of our associations are positive and some negative. As well, the more you try not to think of something the more you see it there, another part of being human.

Actually, that did happen to me too. The card that came up for me (in my Ancestral Path deck) was the Fool. The Fool card in that deck is very untraditional. It is a blond woman sitting at a table with a deck of Tarot cards fanned out before her.

The card came up in the middle of some inner child work I was doing, and the woman looked physically a lot like my Mom, and I saw her there spreading my whole life out in front of me and telling me that I had to live it her way. Unfortunately my Mom is like that, there are always two ways to do anything, her way and the wrong way. Anyway, the association made me feel really angry. And I am sure I would still be reminded of and feel that same anger if I saw the card again, but luckily it has not yet come up for me again.

Just some suggestions....if you have other decks, I would give that deck a rest until the memory of the association with that card and the person fades. Unless every Emperor in every deck bothers you.

And yes, I would look for positive things about the cards and focus on them for a while. Maybe even do a meditation on the card, talk to character in it and find common ground.

Maybe you shouldn't worry about needing to change the association? I've found that associations like that make it a more valuable reading experience. When I see a card come up that I have gotten before and now associate with a certain situation, I've often found that the querent is in a similar situation. When I realize that, I can connect more with their question/situation.

I think that as you make more associations, the cards fall in a way that uses those associations. You've deciphered a part of the code (that's personal to everyone) and the tarot adjusts to put the message in terms you can understand.

Usually, when I get a certain association with a card, I will try to remember other meanings and nuances, but most often, it means that my personal associations will be most useful in that reading.
