Hello All,
I've been comparing minor suit cards to their major numerical equivalent this week. I'm not really coming up with anything intresting for the 8's and their relationship to Strength or Justice.
I'd love some comments from you folks. Any deck, any tradition....
Thanks

For me the 8's are more closely related to Strength.
Examples: 8 of Cups can mean a difficult journey, knowing when to move on. 8 of Swords can mean feeling trapped, finding a way out, need for freedom. 8 of Pentacles, long hours working, studying, or creating something. Those all seem to merge better with Strength than Justice to me. 8 of Wands doesn't really fit to me personally with either. I'm sure I'm missing something there.

I more easily relate 8 to Justice, although I read with all types of decks.
To me, eight is a number of balance and Karma, it is twice the number four, which represents structure and stability, and in the Marseilles we see all four suit pips as an even and balanced depiction. All of which I see as Justice too.

If you take the RwS card with VIII Strength
and compare pips to find steadfastness...
Wands: tearing down old fences
Pentacles: recycling used parts
Cups: swearing off the grape
Swords: turning the other cheek.
Just some little things that can add up.

Fulgour... I don't get the "swearing off the grape". I understand the phrase, but I guess I don't see that meaning in the decks. Or maybe I need to look at an actual RWS 8 of Cups...
The reference for Wands helped though... thanks.

I like the "swearing off the grape" thing. I hadn't ever thought of it for 8 Cups even though I'm an alcoholic in recovery, but thanks for the added meaning I can now see in it. In that respect, I can see the relation it would have to Strength and Justice, too, because it does take strength to get into recovery and you have to learn balance and honesty to stay there, plus you often may have to legally pay for what you've done in your drinking past. Good thought!

I like the "swearing off the grape" thing. I had first written "recovering alcoholic" for 8 of Cups,
but toned it softly back to swearing off the grape...
Elective sobriety, a solitary choice, is also empowering.

I see the 8 of Wands as the strength of spirit and energy all going in the right direction, so it's focused.

I love that! Thanks RedMaple. I found I related the 8 wands more to the lion in strength, than the woman (who I guess I focus on for the meanings of the cards, which is probably the opposite of the cards intent :( ). The wands as the lion, and their parallel-ness as the woman makes a lot of sense to me.
