Hi everyone, could anyone shed any light on what the Sun card's symbolism is in general? Did a spread today and it came up in the advice position - any ideas?
P.S Sorry if this should be posted in the readings section - wasnt sure!
Thanks, Alice xx

My feeling is that we see the child as spiritual liberation,
which now applies to us and our questions when drawn.
See how the sunflowers face toward us, and not the big
Sun on the card: We are the source of the special light!
And the red banner that is being tossed off into the air
is like the shedding of the robes of the earthly burdens
we see in the cards that wear red robes of authority:
The Emperor and The Hierophant, and solemn Justice.
We have reached the haven within the garden walls. :)

Hey, Alice--you posted this in the right section. If you'd posted the entire spread, then it would belong in spreads.

The Sun has a variety of meanings and symbolism--the Sun itself being the largest and most potent symbol of a new day, of the world being ordered, regular and right, as the sun traveling overhead. .
The Sun connects, traditionally, with Apollo and all the things that Greek god stood for, including reason, logic, clarity of mind, inspiration and creativity--that's organized inspiration and creativity, not the darker creativity of the Moon. Things grow under the sun, like those flowers, things planted and planned for in a garden, protected and nurtured, not wild. There's also a connection to children with the Sun, relating back to Apollo, usually male children or a boy and a girl (Apollo and his twin sister Artemis).
On the whole, the Sun is a very good card. It promises smiles and light, clarity, newness, flowers, greenery, laughing children, rational thought and a sunny outlook.

As advice I feel the sun could mean:
look on the bright side of life, view things in a positive way, and show renewed optimism in whatever you are doing.

I agree with Gollog. In the advice position I think it means to adopt a more positive attitude. I have also seen this card appear for someone with Sunlight deficiency syndrome (I can't remember the correct medical term) - where people feel depressed during the winter because they are lacking sunlight - so maybe you need a holiday somewhere nice and sunny!

It's Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). My girlfriend has it, it basically cripples her for 4 months of the year... sigh...

I think you can get phototherapy for this condition. You might want to check it out.

This card, as an advice card, I interperet in the action/advice position as something similar to this: to have the child-like experience. The wonder and excitement that childhood gives us. Sometimes our youth (sun) is shadowed as we move through our years and grow a little older towards maturity. It reminds us to: remember and access our vivid imagination, to let the sun shine in the darkest corner of our minds, to let it warm and regenerate our hopes and dreams. To laugh and squeel, and to play. To be outdoors in a warm and sunny environment and to keep the company of warm and sunny 'headed' people. To be creative and spontanious - uncluttered, shadeless and innocently exposed.
I see it opposed by the 10 of clubs. I have also interpreted it as: A freedom and a release of worries and, Being a geek and going to play on the swings on your fourtieth birthday!
I hope this adds a little anyway..
