After reading
" Merlin and Dreampower together "
posted by earth en lady,
I was wondering...
What decks do you combine together?
I usually just put 2 or 3 RWS decks together & look for a repeat of numbers & cards.
Any good combinations you can share?
Thanks,
ros

I like to combine the Hallowquest with the RWS, and lately, I have been adding the Shining tribe - I don't use the decks together in a reading, but I will lay the cards from the second deck out to replicate the first layout, and see what alternate meaning I get. I find the RWS gives me a day-to-day perspective, the Hallowquest puts that into the perspective of a pattern over lives 9 whether that's what I was after or not!) and the Shining Tribe translates it to spiritual matters.

For a reading for Souljourney I decided to combine my Rider-Waite with my Gothic Tarot (Vargo), because Souljourney liked that deck. But I haven't combined other decks yet, but I want to. I'm wondering what a combination my Art Nouveau and my Rider-Waite will give...

I tried this recently with Bright Ideas and Gilded, but I did the initial layout with Bright Ideas, and found that I read so intuitively with it that I couldn't get anything additional off of the Gilded - frustrating! I'll have to do it in reverse order from now on. I do love the idea of a multiple deck study.

In my 'conspiracy' thread, after I had gone so far with my Marseille deck, I laid out a card for each from the Answer Deck Oracle. This just added a slight slant on each card, which was interesting. - all but one made perfect sense. I may include it in that thread.

I'm writing backstory on the two main characters for a fiction class and their relationship has to carry the story...so I've written pages that show 'scenes' from their relationship that start from a two card pick.
I use a greeny Thoth circa 1977 found in a used bookstore and newer Dreamcards--the deck of dreamcards are larger sized, like Thoth:

You can click on the box icon and see samples of the cards.
I know there's a booklet somewhere, but I just pick one or two Thoth cards for ideas and two Dreamcards. So far, I've been more inclined to use one or two keywords from the Dreamcards to incorporate in the backstory segments of the two characters.
Oh, the two characters grew up together, so there's supposed to be lots of history between them.
I sometimes pick one of the four cards to write a bit about for self reflection as well.

I've done readings with a RWS type deck and then clarifyers from the Froud Faerie Oracle cards. It was incredibly insightful! I haven't tried using two different tarot decks yet because most of mine are RWS types, although they do have some subtle and some not so subtle differences, so it could be really enlightening.
