Hi everyone,
I'm knew to the board, but I found you just in time! I need help understanding a card...
So, in my daily reading, I did a three card draw (this is the Pallandini deck):
Ten of Cups (near past)
Nine of Pentacles (present)
Nine of Rods (near future)
All are right side up. As is my practice, I usually draw a fourth card to sum things up. This has always worked for me -- it's generally rather amazing how much that one card helps me frame the rest of the reading. Until today... I drew the Seven of Cups reversed. I never have seen it reversed. It's not a fun card for me -- I'm in the midst of a lot of transitions in my life (like, in every aspect of my life -- work, romance, etc.). Generally, it shows up in the midst of decisionmaking when I really don't like any of my options and am waiting for some magical answer to my dilemma. No magical option, says this card, make a choice... But reversed? I'm flummoxed. I don't know what to make of it. Any thoughts? Thank you!!!

No magical option, says this card, make a choice...
This is a bit late for a daily draw, but I'd say it says a bit more than "no magical choice." 7/Cups is usually about those options we dream up, envision or imaging. It's our day dreams of possible futures, and they're usually rose-colored and pretty, so pretty we can't make up our mind...or tell which is real and which is fantasy.
Turn this upside-down and you don't necessarily lose those visions--you instead pour out the magic, pour out any substance they had. Now you're envisioning empty cups, the worst that could happen instead of the best. Like before, you can't tell what's real or not, but all options look bad.
Put it another way--7/Cups upright is unrealistic optimism, 7 cups "half-full"--7/Cups reversed is....not even half-empty; just empty. You're not just cynical about your options, you're hopeless. If anyone offers you a suggestion, a senario for the future, you'll shoot it down. You will envision every option as ending badly.
This goes, by the way, very well with that 9/Rods. Things have been looking up for you, solid in love, solid in finance--but in the near future you're going to feel deserted, like you have to hold the fort alone. That's going to make you angry and pessimistic; you'll especially feel unloved (7/cups reversed). Those who were suppose to help you, that you envisioned helping you, have let you down. So now, when you think of them, you see only empty cups.
That help?

That does help quite a lot. It hit me yesterday late in the afternoon, after I'd posted, that the Seven of Cups might be telling me something about feeling empty and frustrated. Something along the lines of this: the choices I'd been making that seemed to be building solid foundations were really bad choices, and I really wasn't moving in a positive direction in all areas of my life.
I felt that way because I caught a certain special someone in a fib that was more than a bit disturbing. I decided to change my attitude overnight, and remember that this person had always been honest with me, and to trust the experiences I'd been having over the past few months, and my intuition that all things have been working in a positive direction. I decided to simplify matter this a.m., and did a single card draw for my daily reading. It was the Two of Cups upright. And, well, let's just say everything turned out to be a misunderstanding. Glad I did not choose to act on that sense of emptiness and frustration, but heeded what I think was a warning from the Reversed Seven of Cups...
And thanks for your insight. It helps enormously in giving me an insight into how important listening to the Tarot is.
Best,
Julien
