Tarot & Ouija (talking boards)..

I came across a few internet sites on talking boards last night.
And now I'm getting interested in using these as an extension to Tarot readings. I tried an Ouija board in the 70's, tried it once nothing..
I told my dad it was "broken" and we returned it! :) funny i know..

As I was looking at these sites I had no idea that people make customize
boards..some beautiful hand crafted ones.
My mind started considering incorporating a talking board w/ Tarot.
Is that considered a wise move to anyone who has experienced the
use of talking boards.
Tarot readings can open up some deep seated emotions, and wondering
what the results would be to use a "ouija" to facilitate more answers.
Or am I'm delving into a "otherworldly" experience.
I don't have a board but am looking before going into it more.

any thoughts??

Hi there. I've had only one experience w/ouija boards and it wasn't great. I was 11 and the kid across the street had one. We were forbidden by our religion to use one, but I snuck over anyway. I asked it, "Is Jesus Christ true" and the nasty little board spelled back, "Cuss you" before the stylus ran itself off of the board. It scared me even though I bought my first Tarot deck a year or so later (Major Arcana only). Tarot still does sometimes scares me, though. I don't have any RW decks with conventional 10 of swords cards because I can't sleep with them in the house. I use cards with different images (although based on RW) and those with unilllustrated pips.

Although, if you do a search for "ouija" in the threads there are some interesting things here and there that other people have written. I saw an Angel Board much like the ouija in Borders this last weekend. It had the letters to spell out things and yes/no portions of the board. I think if you search, here, you will find as many different answers as you do on any other tarot questions.

If used correctly, I can't see much difference than using it like any other "esoteric" device out there including Tarot.

I hope that this doesn't offend you, but you may be into a great idea for creating, developing and marketing this item. I think it may generate quite a bit of interest. What a creative idea!

Good luck!

I used to use the Ouija board a lot, as a teen ager and into my early twenties (and on and off until I was about 28 - though very rarely, at that point). In the beginning, it didn't work. Eventually, it started working, and after that, it started working too well. It was moving so fast that my two best friends and I could hardly keep up. One of them had to take notes while the other two of us had our hands on it. But scary things would happen when we used the board/s...like sensing we were being watched, among other, more freaky occurances. At one point we burned one board (hoping to get rid of "Jack"). We also used to make make-shift boards out of napkins at restaurans and it would still work!

At some point in there, I also got into automatic writing. I never in a million years thought it would work and did it mostly as a joke, but then it started working. What was so scary about it was that there was no one else doing it with me; it was the first time I had absolute proof that neither of my two best friends were cheating, so to speak. I remember the first words my hands scribbled - the silliest words possible: "oom pa pa oom pa pa that's how it goes oom pa pa oom pa pa everyone knows." When I was a kid I was in the play/musical "Oliver," and these are words from one of the songs. It/I even drew pictures! Once, of a little girl with wings, when I was asking questions about my cousin Katy, for her. She's one of the purest souls I know and it went and drew an angel to represent her. The word it liked to write the most (I don't know who "it" is, by the way!), was "one." Over and over and over again, I found myself writing "one." Eventually though, auto. writing got scary too. I remember on a couple of occasions, after I'd been doing it and went to sleep, my hand started moving in a writing motion in the middle of the night - as if it wanted to play (write). That was too much for me; I was afraid it could be the beginning of posession! So I stopped and have only done it two or three times since 1992 - and always in broad daylight - never before bed, when I felt the most vulnerable!

Well that's my story. It never occured to me to be afraid of Tarot cards. But now that I read what you said about having fear of them sometimes, I'm wondering if I should, too! They feel safe to me because no actual words come out of thin air. Plus I like to think that the cards are only telling me what I know on a deeper, higher, intuitive, spiritual level (not some other force telling me this); i.e. that I control the cards. That can be said for Ouiga and automatic writing too though. Still, they were scarier. I guess I do get slightly nervous when a card or two pops out during shuffling, but that may also just be me doing it accidentally, so no biggie. Hmmmm...something to think about! Ok thanks for listening...

I'm not keen on Ouija/Spirit boards - Because to me tarot and Spirit boards are completely different.

The ability to read tarot comes from inside of you whereas using a Spirit Board you're inviting something else into the mix. Its a different path to using the tarot.

Vadella  23 Apr 2005
I've used these up until I was 13. I will never again use one or have one in my home. And that's all I am saying about this subject. haha

mingbop  23 Apr 2005
emily, you're right. tarot is tarot, its straightforward...but if you use an ouija , angel board, or automatic writing, then you are surrendering a part of yourself, to spirit. and if you touch spirit, then you have to use protection and have good intent, or else you might regret it.

I have a Ouija board, or used to. Not sure where it's gone to now. Tried it once, it didn't work, haven't tried it since.

I have some reservations about Ouija boards in that it is a gateway and if you aren't prepared for it, you could be in trouble.

However I feel if you take proper precautions, and have a great deal of experience, you should be ok. It drives me nuts that spirit boards are marketed to kids who are in no way ready to deal with what can come through.

I wouldn't use Ouija or another spirit board with Tarot. I use Runes, pendulum and Tarot together, but they are all three oracles, coming from me not an outside source.

Gwynne- I agree! I have tried to tell my sister to throw out her daughters board and I have even told her daughter but they don't believe me. What else is new?

mike gorth  23 Apr 2005
DONT GET ONE! I agree with Emily. Ouija invites other spirits, good or evil and their energy can be stronger. It's sort of like the internet of spirits. You can meet good or bad ones and you won't even know it.

Interesting take from the others here. I guess I really never thought about why Tarot didn't freak me out, at first at all, as far as scary w/Tarot, the ONLY TIME I get freaked out with it is w/the Sword Suits and such decks as Dali. It is the images. My first deck was Major Arcana only. I didn't know that there were minor cards until I was about 14 (I think). I have no trouble with Visconti, Moon Garden, Connolly, etc. I think that it is a personal problem. I only added this nasty personal item because I don't want to influence others into getting themselves scared of Tarot which is not my intent.

I, too, do believe that they are very different tools: ouija and Tarot and would have to agree w/Gwynne and the others that a gateway for good or bad gets opened up that we are not prepared for w/ouija. But, Carl Jung used Tarot and I do think that we use our own subconcious and the querent's subconcious (whom we read for) with this.

Wonder if there are any folks here who have not had any problems w/ouija? Different perspectives/experiences anyone?

I would also like to know what people think about channeling. I have been afraid to participate in that one because of the "gateway" being opened. I am not sure that just anyone can do that one either. If this is too far off of the subject, would you folks PM me with your personals? Thanks.

Thanks Dreamer for the thread. I'll have a look!

Looks like your thread about Ouija has already been posted. Sounds like maybe this thread should be combined w/the one posted above by The Dreamer.
