I am wondering in everyones opinion what cards have signified to you that an affair has been happening?Does the three of swords signify this?

The 5 and 7 of swords have turned up representing this sort of thing. The secrecy of the 7 and the "dishonorable gain" aspect of the 5 are what come forth there. Also, the 4 of cups can indicate a person is at least thinking about it. And the Ace of wands. The Devil. Gosh, many combinations...

In Old Path, the 3 of cups has come up for me for a love triangle.

For me is the devil and the 3 of swords, or the devil and the hangle man, but the last one isnt necessary affair talka about all kninds of treason.

In Reed's Witches Tarot, the Two Cups actually signified this in the first reading I ever did in public. It her image, a man at the bottom of a falls is looking up at the woman who has climbed to the top of the falls, who has both Cups and is running away with them. To me, it signified that she was leading him on. Of course, the Two Cups in the RWS image is quite different, so your milage may vary.
And I was right! :smoker:

I certainly don't see why the 3 Swords shouldn't qualify for this. If you're thinking of, say, any RW based version, the pierced heart is as good an image as any of the heartache caused by affairs: could relate specifically to the damage the knowledge (as represented by the Swords) of the affair could wreak.
Tarotbear makes a very good point - the images in the decks can be vastly different and I go with what the particular image says. And of course there's always the point about taking surrounding cards into consideration.
