Chess and The Tarot

Okay, so the title's a little misleading but it amused me an old piece of chess wisdom would actually help me with my readings for other people. To start at the beginning anyways, I've used the cards for a few months now for myself and every time I do a reading for myself it's always crystal clear and it generally helps me a lot. When I do the same for other people it either flows smoothly but doesn't have the same depth I can give to readings for myself or I just find myself generalising and struggling to get into anything specifically relevent. I did a reading for myself with the question "What factors are hindering my ability to read the Tarot for other people?". Amongst other cards I had: Past - 10 of wands, Present - 8 of pentacles and Answer - 4 of swords. Fairly self-explanatory really as I have been studying the cards quite intensively for an extended period of time now and after taking a break from that almost instantly my readings improved!

Anyways, here's what came to my mind from my chess playing days... There was a famous grandmaster (whose name eludes me at the moment) who once uttered a memorable rebuke to a young fan. After one of his games he was approached by this young man who had been watching the game and the young man was excitedly asking question after question "Did you analyse the variation *insert chess variation*?". Then he asked again "Did you analyse...". After several minutes of this the bemused grandmaster replied "My dear boy, you analyse before a game and after a game. During a game you just play!"

This approach towards readings has helped me immensely so I just thought I'd share it in case it aids any other people who are having similar problems :D.

that simple spread: Past, present, answer is very good TPOG, I will remember that one!
