The way I shuffle I don't get reversals...

Is this a problem? Obviously this leads me to sometimes to get all reversed cards but I usually just turn it around because I don't think they're all intended to be reversed. Very rarely I get a reverse so I leave it. Is this an issue? Why or why not?

I don't read reversed - I used to but haven't now for years. But I do read with all possible meanings in mind - including "reversed" meanings - by which I do not mean the opposite of upright! For instance with the two of cups: I look at all the possibilities that might happen when two people come together - it can lead to love and trust, or friendship - or it can degenerate and lead to tension precisely because of the attraction between the two people. Working on the number symbolism is very useful for that. Of course other cards around that Two of Cups will help too - if the two of cups is followed by a two of swords, you can assume this emotional tension will lead to some thinking and a mental stand-off (and it will help you see the Two of Cups in that light).

This means I shuffle so no cards come upright. In the rare instances a card cmes reversed, I take it as a sign that I must pay attention to that card and the meaning is likely to be "reversed" (again - I don't mean "opposite").

I don't like to read reversals either, so when I shuffle its always the same way and I know I won't get them. If by some chance a card does get reversed then I do read it reversed because it must have happened for a reason, but that doesn't happen very often.

For me, it depends on the deck. If I use a Marseilles type ('pip' designed), then I deliberately shuffle the deck in a way that will reverse some cards. If I use a fully pictorial deck (e.g rider-waite) I keep all cards upright in order to concentrate on the imagery.

Hi brh....good to have you here at AT!

I, too, feel that all of the meanings are contained in the card itself...I set all cards upright to read.

I just posted a comment about reversals and shuffling in this link (and I connected some addtional links here at AT on the topics of shuffling and reversals).

Mrs. L. had asked a question about placing the cards back into the deck to shuffle and whether or not to place them back all in one direction....

As many have stated, I, too, do not use reversals--I make a strained effort not to reverse any of the cards! The only deck I use with reversals is the Revelations (and as Helvetica said, I do so very intuitively). My suggestion is that if you want to use reverals, be sure to make an effort to reverse some of the cards while you shuffle, otherwise it defeats the purpose.

I would do the same. If I got all reversed cards I would turn the deck. That being said, I think the issue is not so much about how you shuffle as if you WANT to use reversals in your spreads. You do not seem clear about if you want to or not. And it is somethign you need to be clear on as a reader.

Some people use them, some don't. You can decide not to use them, but if you do decide that they add value to your reading and you really want to use them, then you have a problem will have to adjust your shuffling manner to include them.

The easiest way to do it is to cut the deck in half, reverse one half and it put under the other unreversed pile. That should give you approximaltey the same number of cards going each direction. THEN shuffle in your usual way.

I don't read reversed cards either. If I do get one that comes up reversed, I just turn it around. I do keep in mind both the upright and reversed meanings of the cards to see how they both apply to the situation/question.
