Tara Hill Runes

I have been browsing the threads on Runes, and someone mentioned Tara Hill Designs. I look 'em up--and they look beautiful! Does anyone have a set of her wooden Runes? They appear to be very well made. Furthermore, she offers a book on reading the Runes--thoughts on that too.

Thanks

I considered buying a set from tarahill not long ago, but for some reason shied away from it. Maybe the having to stain them yourself drove me off,I cant quite say. They do look nice.

I've bought the blank wooden squares and carved them myself, the wood quality is very nice. the price wasn't bad either. They ship in decent time and the service I got was great. I would recommend them.

there is a little book and a nice bag

I have a set of Tara Hill Runes (Futhark in Yew)
and the advice I would give to anyone thinking
about investing in a set of your choice from this
source is... what a wonderful opportunity to be
able to buy something like this... they are rare!

A hundred years ago...a hundred years from now,
look and wonder and think how amazing they are.

I have a set of runes from Tara Hill. Mine were a custom request. I have yew staves with the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc (they usually only do that set as tiles rather than staves) and I am more than happy with them. It was a pleasure working with Tara Hill - very good communication and knowledge, and I received my order remarkably fast, considering they were not a regular item, and they were shipped internationally. I was very pleased with the quality of their work. I have no qualms recommending them, so if it's needing that kind of feedback that stands in the way of placing an order, they most assuredly have my vote of confidence. If it comes down to a matter of just not being drawn to them or feeling like you would connect, no amount of satisfied customers can change that. Good luck with whatever you decide! ;)

Anglo-Saxon Futhorc

Bev-

How does the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc differ from the Elder? According to what I've read, the number of runes varies, but in what other ways? Thanks.

The Anglo Saxon Futhorc has five more runes than the more widely known 24 rune Elder Futharc. (There is a Northumbrian Futhorc that adds even more.) There is also some differences on Rune order. Not only is there one swap from the Elder Futhark, there are three (that I know of) different rune orders recognized as Anglo Saxon. (Confused yet?)

The fourth rune in the Anglo Saxon Futhorc is Os (having the primary meaning of "mouth", not Ansuz. It has the phonetic value of O instead of A, explaining the spelling of Futhorc. (I've seen it spelled Futhorc or Futhork - no difference really - it would have been a hard C sound and the same phonetic value as K.) The rune that had been Ansuz is called Aesc in AS runes and appears as rune number 26.

The additional runes are Ac - or oak tree, Aesc - ash, Yr - bow or weapon, Ear - grave, and Iar - otter or beaver.

If you are interested in learning about various rune rows (there are lots of them) I recommend Nigel Pennick's book The Complete Illustrated Guide to Runes.

I hope I haven't muddied the waters. I have to say my communications skills are not at their best at the minute (little stress issue going on) but please feel free to ask questions and I'll be glad to clarify if I can.

Tara Hill just shipped my Runes!

Tara just emailed me yesterday saying that she shipped my runes. I chose the Holly wood because it's so beautiful and ethreal-looking. Hopefully it won't take long for me to get it.

When I was agonizing over my decision on which wood I wanted, Holly was a very serious consideration. It does look beautiful. I'm eager to hear how you like them, be sure to let us know! :)

Good luck with your new runes!

I got my Runes!

Bev,

I received my Runes today; I'm really surprised I got them so fast! Anyway, I am quite pleased with them--and I love the bag! The Tree of Life imblem really makes it unique. However, I am a bit surprised at the lightness of them--they're as light as a feather! I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not; maybe it's the Holly wood inparticular (are your runes really light?). So far I'm enjoying the companion book; it's very well structured, and the interpretations and background information is very well researched. The whole package has a home-made, down-to-earth feel to it--not a mass-produced clone set like the ones at Barnes and Noble.
