Celtic Tarot - Lo Scarabeo - The Sun

I'm starting to like this deck but I just can't wrap my brain around The Sun's symbolism. Yes, it's a dichotomy of good & bad, but I've never seen the bad depicted so graphically. Any thoughts?

A woman washes clothes in blood, sacrifice and suffering that the river carries away, behind her a man, a fighter.
All at a price, glory and fame, success, make sure there is always a price to pay.
It is worth so much suffering to reach the treasure?
