Wendish/Sorbian type deck

DuschkaDescendant

Hello all [emoji171]
I currently have the Celtic Dragon deck but no longer feel connected to it. I have been in numerous shops but they all seem to stock the same and I don't feel connected to them either.
I am a Wiccan, and am currently researching my family tree. I have Wendish/Sorbian heritage on my mothers side, and Romany gypsy and English on my fathers side - is there any decks you can please suggest that I might feel a connection with?
Your advice is greatly appreciated xx

Try the Buckland Romani, perhaps? Sounds right up your alleyway. The first edition is out of publication (OOP) but, you can still buy the deck at Galde Press (second edition). I have this deck, it is very evocative! My recommendation is to buy the kit, not just the deck - the book is quite good.

They still sell it at Galde press, but the "where to buy" link here at AT won't have the right page. You'll just get an error code. Just download the catalogue, the deck is on page 18, top left corner, under "divination". I am not sure how to put it in the cart, however! Clicking on the deck in the catalog does not seem to work, so you may have to write to them. I have put a link to the catalog below.

You might also enjoy the Silver Witchcraft tarot...

Just use the Tarot Gallery menu choice, top left hand corner, here at AT, and type in key words of what you are looking for. You will then get several tarot deck choices that you can look at, and read reviews of, and hopefully that will help! :)

Wendisch-Sorbian, that's interesting. I don't know whether they had special cards but I can tell you that in Theodor Fontane's book "Before the Storm" (Napoleon Germany, the area of Frankfurt/Oder), there's a dwarf fortune teller, Hoppenmarieken. Nobody knows where she came from, but people think that's she's wendisch.

She uses cards, and from what I remember, they're German playing cards (with Ober and Unter). I have to look at it again but I imagine they'd look more or less like these cards:

Oh, I found the novel *http://www.zeno.org/Literatur/M/Fon...+Sturm/Erster+Band/8.+Kapitel.+Hoppenmarieken), and here is the sentence:

Es waren deutsche Karten: Schippen, Herzen, Eichel;

Yes, they were German cards. French cards would have the modern playing card suits we use today, diamonds and spades - but my Grandparents still used German cards with acorns and bells.

I wouldn't choose Piatnik; they're Austrian. Altenburger Spielkarten would be the more suitable printing house because they're in Eastern Germany where the Sorbs and Wenden live, and it's a firm with a long tradition.

You could read them like any other deck of playing cards.

I have always wanted to buy such a deck and I think I will. Thank you for the idea!

Thank you so much everyone, I am grateful for your expertise. My eyes fell in love with the Buckland Romani Galde straight away, but my mind went straight to the Skat. So as always when my inner conflict arises I asked my pendulum.
It was quite adamant the Skat was for me (I'm guessing my mothers side is louder than my fathers lol)
Thank you so much my lovelies, I really appreciate your wisdom [emoji171][emoji171][emoji171]
