Green Boxes, Card Backs, and Hexagram Styles

Fulgour

I have 2 large Thoth decks in identical green boxes,
both boxes having the same markings by US Games.

My question concerns the backs of the cards and the
'unicursal hexagram' cards, and also the dreaded hue.

The back with the small white border has good colours,
while the other is from a deck with the 'greenish' tinge.

Can someone helpfully explain why there's a difference?

And too~ can anyone clarify what (if any) differences
there are between these Weiser & US Games versions:

Red Wheel-Weiser
ISBN 0877284520

US Games Systems
ISBN 0913866156

Both ISBNs are from large (green box) Thoth decks.

:) Thanks!

As far as I know the only difference is 'old' and 'new'.

The greenies are now out of print. All new decks have back borders and better colours. If they have the hex it is now the rainbow one.

I don't think there is any diference between the USG and the Weiser. (or the muller, for that matter) Same deck in different boxes.

But I am not certain of this. I do not have all the different editions to compare and contrast.
But I do know that greenies are no longer sold new. But they are pretty cheap on ebay.

I don't think there is a difference between the Weiser and US Games versions because AGMuller print both decks. I think Weiser and US Games just handle packaging and distribution of the same deck of cards.

Many Thanks!

The 'newest' difference is finding myself here with 'old friends!'
Everyone has been very encouraging, and helpful with details.

I found a new old Weiser for $12.99 (~ £7.42 ~) and decided it
couldn't hurt to order it and see what shows up...these may all
now be relics the way the market behaves. I'll post my findings.

As has already been mentioned, the one with ISBN 0877284520 is an older version, now oop. The other, ISBN 0913866156, is the most recent US Games edition. It has "AG Muller" stamped in the margin on the back. Weiser's latest version of the same deck is exactly the same as US Games' except it doesn't have "AG Muller" on it (see below).

Edit To Add: Well, I have to correct myself. Was just in Hastings and looked at a large Weiser Thoth deck. It now has "AGMuller" stamped on it as well.

"White Box A" Published by Samuel Weiser (1969?)

A friend has written to ask:
"Is there an IBSN on this box and does the deck have a blank card?"

As I recall, ISBNs did not become standard
until the early to mid 1970s...worth noting.

*** Updated ***

Weiser Books (September 1976)
ISBN: 087728444X

The seller dates it at 1983 saying:
Deck of 78 cards in white case with
red and black printing, red design.

Hi :) Dean! Looking at your scan, and considering size,
relative to the box the type-size isn't telling me "large"
cards here... but with this deck I think until you have
the cards in your hands, who knows what they'll be?

My "large" Weiser Thoth came, and it's the borderless
back with red hexagram card. The colours are great.
