Journey into Egypt Tarot-2 of Swords

2 of Swords
First 10 days of the month
The image in the 2 of Swords is an Egyptian cobra posturing to strike while behind it the sun is eclipsed. The scissor rests on the ledge next to the cobra. Isis created this snake out of the dust and bodily fluids of Ra. She set the snake on Ra's path with orders for the snake to take a bite out of Ra each day as he passes. She invokes “dark” magic to extract his secret name that he initially refused to give her. In the ancient world, if you knew someone’s secret name you had power over him. To name something is to bring it into existence, to give it form. Isis plans on giving Ra's secret name to her son Horus. Ra's life is slowly drained and he eventually gives his secret name to Isis. When she has his name, Isis gives Ra the antidote for the poison restoring his health. This story supports the moral of the Piscean lesson- that if you believe you are only a physical being and you fear for your physical existence, then you will give up your power to those who threaten your life. Isis demonstrates her knowledge of an eternal life.

The scissor was invented around 1500 BCE in ancient Egypt. Early scissors have been found in ancient Egyptian ruins and throughout the Middle East. These early scissors were made from one piece of spring metal, as shown in this card. It was a tool used to cut cloth, style hair and wigs, and shear animals. The scissor is one of the tools listed in a hieroglyphic list of surgical tools at Kom Ombo.

Card meaning: The 2 of Swords demonstrates the act of breaking a standoff; the one who wins knows that all we can ever do is break-even; the one with the most knowledge ultimately wins. This card also suggests that if you doubt your connection to the greater universe, as well as your place in it, others can threaten your power. But if you hold fast, believe in your power, and believe in yourself, you can attain the unattainable. What is truly yours cannot be taken from you.

So the one with the most knowledge breaks the standoff by finding the break-even compromise?
