Stands for crystal balls

Hi everyone,
My gorgeous husband has just bought me a really beautiful obsidian sphere as a solstice present. It`s about 3" in diamiter and it hasn`t got a stand apart from a very naff plastic one which came with it. I`d really like to use something natural as a stand as I haven`t really seen any metal ones which really appeal to me. Any ideas?

Love and light

Crystalmynx xx

Sounds like it's time to go rural and pick some interesting twigs to overlay in a triangle manner
I don't know what effects it may have, because crystals etc aren't my field, but also you could go to a garden centre and check out their rockery stones and see if you could find a smallish one with a definate dip or bowl in the middle.

Hi Crystalmynx,

I also have a 3" gazing ball. I searched for a natural stand for the longest time.

One day while cleaning around it I placed it on my glass candle holder (for tapers) and I've used it from there ever since.

Perhaps this will work for you.

Blessings for a happy 2003...........Moose

Hi Crystalmynx! What a great gift! Obsidian is one of my favoritest stones (right after hematite ). Anyway... I have a few spheres and several rather large CZ's (30mm up to 70mm)... I found some nice velvet bean-bag like things that come in various sizes. These work really well for holding these types of things. Most of the new-age shops around here carry them. Naturally, they won't keep a cat from knocking your sphere off the shelf, but they'll hold it pretty well.

An alternative might be to get a piece of wood and carve out a hollow that would hold your sphere. A nice piece of driftwood or something like that might work really well.

what great ideas! bean bags could be made so easily.

i also recieved a sphere from my husband yesterday. i have a geode that is flat on the bottom, and set it in the hollow. it looks great, and i suspect the geode will amplify it's powers. i don't plan on keeping it there, as i fear the geode may scratch or chip the sphere.

i was thinking about making a clay stand, but the thought just occured to me to cut a band out of a gourd (using the neck of a long necked gourd). a gourd couldn't scratch it. it could even be engraved easily. hmmmm......

i suppose in a pinch, one could slice a thick cardboard tube, and cover it with some material or glue small stones etc. on it.

a doughnut

I have a few orbs myself, I also make jewelry and one of the goodies in my bead box are semi-precious stone doughnuts. They come in a few sizes but the one I use for my 3" orb is about the size of a quarter. What is cool about the dougnuts is the are flat enough that it looks like the orb sits right on the shelf. You can find these at a bead store....if not PM me.
I have also used metal(finger)rings.
the candle stand sounds way cool.

Hi all,

There are some really good ideas posted here! As I was reading them, I thought about a wooden napkin ring. Would that work?

Hi Crystalmynx,

I collect Figures from a collection called 'Myth and Magic' by The Tudor Mint - they are silver aged to look like pewter, dragons, fairies, unicorns, Magicians, Witches - that kind of thing. Samuels the Jewellers are one of the major stockists - included in the collections are crystal ball holders of varying sizes dragons, fairies etc. I know there are a few designs available, if they haven't been retired but if you're into that kind of thing they might interest you.
