Morgan Greer - Four of Swords

Rede Seeker

This card give me chills.

In the foreground a suit of armor lies, the helmet and part of the neck and shoulders are visible. The top of the helmet is decorated with oak leaves and acorns, there is also a mane of sorts. The leaves and mane are a red-brown color, perhaps their season has passed. Oak is a kenning for Man; a flowing mane is a symbol of vitality and power. Both are subdued here.

The armor is a gold or brass colored, not the usual silver/steel color one would expect. This armor belongs to the Sun, the wearer is 'more-than-mortal', yet the armor and the one inside it appear to be resting in peace.

Behind the helmet is an archway, either a doorway or window. Beyond this arch is a dense fog that disipates to reveal grey-blackness above. The time could be early morning, the turning point from dusk to dawn. The fog could be the fairies of old who would play in the mist covered fields by night until the Sun chased them away.

Inside the chamber where the knight rests, three swords are suspended. It's difficult to see from the perspective how close to the knight they truly are. The center sword is more detailed than the two behind it, so it is probably foremost in the triad. A fourth sword pierces three layers of mist outside the archway. It is not inside the chamber where the knight rests.

Who could sleep in a suit of armor? Even a dead king laying in state would not wear the helmet. Our resting knight's identity remains a mystery, though we know he was a shining one, a hero, based on the armor's color and ornaments. The three swords that are in the chamber with our Knight could represent a completed cycle: birth-being-returning/resting; the fourth sword could represent a new beginning that is near at hand. It pierces the three levels of Mystery - what was, what is, what is coming into being.

In terms of Thoughts and Ideas, the theme of the suit of Swords - our Knight has served well and rests, recharges, and awaits the coming of the fourth sword that will re-animate him/her once more.
