Corona - Ariadne was the beautiful daughter of Minos, king of Crete. She fell in love with Theseus when he came to kill the Minotaur. By accident, Minos' son was killed by Athenians, and as a punishment he required seven sons and seven daughters to be sent as a tribute from Athens every nine years. These sacrificial victims were fed to the Minotaur, who lived in the labyrint. Ariadne helped Theseus by giving him a ball of yarn, which he unravled behind him as he looked for the monster. After he killed the Minotaur, he was able to retrace his steps. He escaped and took Ariadne with him, but ungraciously abandoned her on Naxos. Even though she wept floods of tears, she was still beautiful. She caught the fancy of Dionysus, with whom she lived ever after. The crown that Dionysus gave her is the one th at gleams forever in the heavens, a token of their love.
