Yes it does suggest mortality and more specifically (as AC says) blood is incorporated to represent animal life. Here we are talking about a vegatative formula, specifically trees. How do trees (of eternity) link to Nuit's hair? I dont know but I'm reminded of this;

" And some believe antennas are their leaves
That spans beyond our galaxy ..."
