We use both Macs and PCs. The PCs have a whole server dedicated to keeping viruses off of them.

The Macs, far as I know, just use the built-in OS firewall. No problems so far, and frankly, I've never even seen a virus on the Mac.

Practically everyone I know has a PC or Mac at work, and a Mac at home. Wondering why games and stuff like Tarot programs are authored for PCs only. I sure as hell would never play games at work.

It's hard to get excited about cheap, knock-offs (PCs) that don't work as well as original (Macs). It's why I don't do most of my shopping at the 99 cent store. You get what you pay for. Microsoft has yet to come up with an original idea. Microsoft: the 99 cent store of computers.

There's only one Mac, there's only one iPhone, there's only one iPod. If they weren't so great, there wouldn't be a constant race to copy their products and rush them to market.

I posted to this thread in 2008 and I was a PC user then. I've since made the switch to Mac and wow, what a difference.
I've quoted Bigcaat above because I completely agree - you get what you pay for and Macs seem far superior to PCs - my husband has been telling me as much for years but I just wouldn't listen to him. I would never go back to PC now.

I'm a PC user, been from the start. The hardware is easy to replace, easy to find and cheap, everything fits with PC, easier and cheaper to upgrade than buying a new one too (I just did for 1000$CAD for mine). Plus I'm a gamer, I don't own a console so I do all my gaming on my PC. I'm in love with my Windows apps and I wouldn't like to be forced to find some Mac equivalent. I don't own an iPhone or an iPod and I seriously don't see the point in getting one of them like ever. So I'm all PC and Windows.

I've used Macs exclusively for maybe 20 years now. I have no reason to switch. They're more expensive, yes, but if you live near an Apple Store, you can often get problems taken care of for free at the Genius Bar. Not that you'll have any problems.

The only drawback that sometimes bothers me is that a lot of software isn't available for the Mac. So things like tarot programs and other specialty games and such are out of the question. If you switch from PC to Mac, that can be frustrating.

If you can abide the cost and really just want a computer for normal activities, then I'll always recommend a Mac. In general, we're a happy lot. And to the extent that a computer can have a personality, Macs have great personalities. They're fun to be around.

Actually, all you need is Parallels - http://www.parallels.com/landingpag...CFR4UagodWwilqQ - and you can run Windows and all window platform software on your Mac. (Not that I would ever do it. There's not a program in the world that is important enough for me to suffer through using Windows. I understand that there are for others, however.)

PC's and Mac's

A PC has been my home computer choice for 14 years, but a year or so ago I ventured into Mac territory, with a 20" iMac, after strong urging from my IT son, after he discovered a nasty virus on my PC.

That led to a small white shop-soiled bargain price MacBook, then to my absolutely wonderful iPhone - linked in with my Macs.

There are still some favourite programmes of mine that are for PC only, such as the wonderful astrology programme Solar Fire, which created much havoc when I recently tried to install it into my iMac's virtual partition via VMWare Fusion which my son set up for me.

However, Family Tree Maker has loaded happily onto the Fusion virtual PC corner of the iMac.

So my old PC with Windows 2000 now sits in the corner like a rather sad old aunt, who still merits a visit when I want to make a greeting card using Microsoft Greetings Workshop, which came free with an early PC, before software manufacturers learned to be very canny.

Comparing the two, I'd say the advantage of a Mac is that I never need worry about viruses when I download images.

Very well said.

Y'know, you don't have to use your old PC to do greeting cards, you can do greeting cards very nicely with "Pages" which is in the iWorks package. There are also several Mac programs specifically for greeting cards and I'm sure some options that aren't coming to mind right now. I do all of my cards on Pages.

Congrats on your Mac! Glad you're enjoying it.
