Place's Buddha Deck/Book
Hi guys, I've got Robert Place's Buddha deck on order, and have been wondering whether the companion book is a must have? My knowledge of buddhism isn't extensive, however the general tenets, and information is pretty readily available online. I guess my question is - for those of you who have it, do you think it was a worthwhile purchase? Or was there sufficient information in the LWB? Thanks ![]() Herself __________________ We are the trees whom shaking fastens more. - George Herbert |

Definitely worthwhile -- if you are going to do anything more than superficial readings, you really need the book. It's a great book, very large and substantial, worth the money. |

I always imagined that any book on Buddhism would make sense with this deck. I have a wonderful biography of Buddha, a tiny hardbacked book of his life and teachings. I also have another book of Buddhist esays on Buddhist thinking... That's why I'd never bought the book. |

I have the deck (it's my favorite) and use it mostly to read for myself, or for meditation. The LWB that comes with it is pretty decent, but I think the book would be very helpful, and plan to order it. As Le Fanu mentioned, any book on buddhism would be helpful. |

I have the book but not the deck. I'd recommend reading it simply because it's written by Robert Place. What I love about the book though is how he discusses both western mysticism and Neo-Platonism and then compares how this fits with the life and teaching of the Buddha. If you are interested in how eastern and western traditions come together it's a great read.

The LWB is very good with this deck, but the companion book is also good. I wouldn't say it's a must have. I used to have both the deck and the book but gave them away. __________________ One Deck Wonder - Tarot of the Sidhe and Froud Faeries' Oracle - Beltane to Summer Solstice 2013 |

This deck is VERY nice! It's beautiful and you can see that Robert Place (as usual) did his homework. Although you can use it with the LWB only, the book is essential if you wish to understand the deck and its symbolism. I DO recommend, however, that you read this thread that points to some 'problems' people found in the deck. It's no to de-enable you (I personally LOVE the Buddha tarot), but for you to see another point of view. There's also some people defending it, so it may help you to make up your mind about it! This deck is going OOP now, so if you come across it for a good price, buy it! |
