Well, it seems to fit if you consider the Hermit as holding up his own light to seek the truth. He doesn't trust what others say, he must find out for himself, and no dark corner is safe from his lantern--which doesn't make him all that popular with the establishment. That's one of the reasons he's a Hermit; not only because he rejects the status quo of others, but because people shy from him, the man who is always asking uncomfortable questions that go against accepted (and comfortable) dogma.
Turn that upside down and you get someone who knows that it's far easier to be part of the status quo then to question it and be singled out. He may still have the Hermit's questioning nature, but he's shuttered that lantern. A reversed Hermit is one who has decided that it's better not to seek out the truth, because it just leads to a solitary, uncomfortable life. He'd rather have friends, status and security. Yes?
