Fleetwood Mac

I opened a Fleetwood Mac thread elsewhere (what can I say - I'm a big eater of cheese), and I was referred here. So:-

The Six Cups would be "Beautiful Child". Of course, the whole deck would be "Beautiful Child". Perhaps the Fool also?

The Tower would be Storms ("I have always been a storm"). Or perhaps, Landslide? (Will a landslide bring you down?)

The Seven Cups would have to be Crystal from Rumours. Or Over My Head?

The Devil - Chain. (chain - keep us together!)

The Moon - Rhiannon. (she is like a cat in the dark, and then She is the darkness ...)

The Two Cups - Songbird.

The Hermit - Pages. Or maybe I'm So Alone? No - definitely Stand Back.

The Four Swords - Albatross.

the World: That's All for Everyone.

The Queen Cups - Oh Dianne.

the Ace Pentacles - Heart of Stone.

The Magician - What Makes you Think You're the One

Ace Swords - think About Me.

Eight Swords - I'm So Afraid.

Queen Pentacles - Gold Dust Woman.

The Sun - Warm Ways (or perhaps the Devil?)

Temperance: Goodbye Angel.

I have a four-CD compilation of 25 years of their music - I'll bet if I pulled it out and seriously thought Tarot I could find a song for every card. Time, Nisaba, Time.

I'd really like to see a list using Sting/The Police songs. Any ideas?

Since their new album, Backspacer, just came out I have been thinking about a Pearl Jam song Major Arcana. Any suggestions?

Strangely enough, I've been thinking about Great Big Sea in connection with Tarot for a while now. I've even considered creating a kind of "audio tarot" of songs. So this wasn't too hard. The only one that was really hard was the Hierophant.

I have to admit that some of these choices are more intuitive than traditional, but is that all that surprising when it comes to music?

the Fool – Company of Fools
Magician - Jack Hinks
High Priestess - Captain Wedderburn
Empress – Sally Ann
Emperor - When I am King
Hierophant – Let It Go
the Lovers - Graceful and Charming (Forget me not)
the Chariot - Boat like Gideon Brown
Justice - Own True Way
the Hermit - River Driver
Wheel of Fortune - Stumbling In
Strength – Beat the Drum
the Hanged Man – Hanging Johnny
Death - General Taylor
Temperance – The Mermaid
the Devil – Straight to Hell
the Tower - The Chemical Worker’s Song (Process Man)
the Star – Ordinary Day
the Moon - Walk on the Moon
the Sun - Shines Right Through Me
Judgment - Consequence Free
the World - Feel It Turn

I'm thinking Missy Higgins. It's going to be a challenge: she's just a kid, and simply hasn't put out the volume of music that people who have been around longer have. But her stuff is good.

the Fool - Blind Winter
Magician - Steer
High Priestess - Warm Whispers
Empress - Warm Whispers
Emperor - This is How It Goes
Hierophant - Don't Ever
the Lovers - The Special Two
the Chariot - 100 Round the Bends
Justice - Blind Winter
the Hermit - Ten Days (without you in my life)
Wheel of Fortune - Steer
Strength - Unbroken
the Hanged Man - Falling
Death - Casualty or Drowning
Temperance - Katie
the Devil - the River
the Tower - Falling
the Star - Any Day Now
the Moon - Nightminds
the Sun - Peachy
Judgment - Wrong girl
the World - All for Believing.

That was surprisingly hard. Some of the songs, which definitely are *not* in the nature of the card, were chosen only for their title: others of the songs, whose titles are definitely not in the nature of the card, were chosen for the meaning in the lyrics. That's what I get for choosing an artist with a relatively small body of work <grin>.

I was reading through this list and thinking, "Hmmm, I wonder if someone would do Great Big Sea?" and then saw your post and broke my face grinning. GOOD JOB!

A few of my favorites didn't make it on your list (When I'm Up, The Mermaid Song, Helmet Head, Mari-Mac...) and I keep sitting here trying to fit them in somewhere, but your list is just too good...every time I think "but...maybe this song could go here??" I look to see what you've put and, nope, your choice is clearly more suitable.

I have no idea where Mari Mac or Helmet Head would go, but I already have the Mermaid Song as Temperance. The whole idea of the traditional mermaid and her "reversed" sister just seemed too perfect.

Ha! You sure do. It was very, very late when I posted that. ;-)

Radiohead

Just discovered this gem:

Years ago fans shuffled two Radiohead albums together (OK Computer and In Rainbows) and discovered that the sounded great together, as if they were created to complement each other.

And then I just read that a Tarot blogger took it one step further by laying down the major arcana beside it and found that the songs matched really well.

Turns out my husband has both of these albums -which I haven't even listened to beyond Karma Police - so I just created a playlist with them, even editing the names of the songs. I can't wait to give it a listen.

1. Airbag (OK Computer) - The Magician
2. 15 Step (In Rainbows) - The High Priestess
3. Paranoid Android (OK Computer) - The Empress
4. Bodysnatchers (In Rainbows) - The Emperor
5. Subterranean Homesick Alien (OK Computer) - The Hierophant
6. Nude (In Rainbows) - The Lovers
7. Exit Music [For A Film] (OK Computer) - The Chariot
8. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi (In Rainbows) - Strength
9. Let Down (OK Computer) - The Hermit
10. All I Need (In Rainbows) - The Wheel of Fortune
11. Karma Police (OK Computer) - Justice
12. Fitter Happier (OK Computer) - The Hanged Man
13. Faust Arp (In Rainbows) - Death
14. Electioneering (OK Computer) - Temperance
15. Reckoner (In Rainbows) - The Devil
16. Climbing Up The Walls (OK Computer) - The Tower
17. House Of Cards (In Rainbows) - The Star
18. No Surprises (OK Computer) - The Moon
19. Jigsaw Falling Into Place (In Rainbows) - The Sun
20. Lucky (OK Computer) - The Last Judgment
21. Videotape (In Rainbows) - The World
22. The Tourist (OK Computer) - The Fool

To read the post in full and read the lyrics, go here.
