Lovers/Hierophant in Marriage Proposal

At face value, if you're looking for a Yes/No answer to the question of marrying this guy
I will surely post the link later. I guess I know deep down, HE won't change and would obviously want and expect me to change. I remember the last time I argued with him when he said "Girls shouldn't swear..." Ugh, such double standards I can't take and no, I don't think he would become romantic overnight. He is just a very solid match, real good family, ridiculously well to do but that alone is not enough...Interestingly, in couple of other readings, I have been getting the Hierophant + Lovers combo for how he feels about me

Hierophant/Lovers: Yeah, that just screams to me that he feels that you would be a good choice for marriage for him, as well...but nothing about love or passion. You two would probably be a great match--on paper. But marriage depends on a lot more than tangible propriety to really work out, and in my opinion a couple deserves much more than that! My advice to young people is never to settle for "almost good enough"!

You wouldn't say Lovers is a passionate card? I thought in the earlier decks, Lovers signified passionate unions (not legally valid ones, but like Romeo and Juliet?) Anyhow, yes we are a great match on paper. A very SOLID match, but I don't know if that translates to great match. He is a very solid 4 and I am a crazy 5. In itself, I think that defeats the match although I have heard the only good matches for 5 would be 1s... Although it would certainly be head to head, neither wanting to give up,I do appreciate the 1s more than the wishy washy types.

Also, I think I will say No because I am only 22! I have my whole life ahead of me to settle down...

Not in this instance, clarifying the very staid Hierophant and as a back up to your earlier throw.

Actually, in some of the earlier ones (Marseilles, I believe), the image is one of a guy making a choice between a young woman and what may be seen as his mother (an older woman, at least.) I took the stand that the choice part of the card's energy was prominent, but now, actually, I could see the tradition of his family background being a big part of his proposal--i.e. that part of this may be a large act of rebellion on his part...with the sense also that he sees it as movement (Wheel) away from his father's house (Emperor) to one of his own.

But again, not out of love, but with some much larger energies at work here (they're all trump--or as he may see it--remedy cards--if you will notice! you may represent a way to the growth of his own empire, more as a pawn than a partner in this case.)

At least, that may be something for you to consider in this situation. It may or may not fit, but if it gives you something to think about, the spread(s) have done their job!

Actually, I always thought that was a mother laying her hand on her son's shoulder in blessing and approving of the couple's union! His family traditional plays a very huge role in this thing actually. It was only after his family started pressuring him to get married that he thought of me perhaps as a "suitable candidate" . It was a very casual Q & A kinda proposal (it can't be called that exactly!) There was no love in it at all... Mainly because we are not a couple. I just had a crush on him three years back, we flirted for a bit and then things went sour because of third party involvement. He did not explain himself and acted like a jerk. I left the friendship and felt like it was good riddance because he used to brag all the time about his latest purchases or the number of female admirers he had (so, he is good looking). We became friends again recently after he quit his old job and wanted to talk to me about his issues. Yep, that is always how it happens. I listen well, so people just pour their woes to me and expect me to come up with quick solutions. Anyhow, that is how we are still friends but this proposal may change things. Like, I may end it again (this time for good) should he persist.

But again, not out of love, but with some much larger energies at work here (they're all trump--or as he may see it--remedy cards--if you will notice! you may represent a way to the growth of his own empire, more as a pawn than a partner in this case.)

The spread certainly gave me much to think about...

i see the combination to mean "traditional gender roles". Hierophant = trandition, Lovers = male and female.

Agreed. Not that this is always a bad thing, but if you go by the elements, the Hierophant here can wind up being pretty "limited" whereas the Lovers' element of air would seem to promote a kind of liberation.
