Four of Rings

Moving right along.

One of the fun things about making the "coins" into "rings" is that I can loop them thru one another....I can show things INSIDE the rings, or make them just, well, hoops. Or golden shackles!

Golden shackles, Iron chains. The four of rings has many positive aspects: savings, frugality, conservative spending. Then there's the negative: miserliness.

More than that though: earthly power speaks of a comfort zone: a safe enclosure, sacred space... and it's security. We all need that, and that's one reason we try to hold onto our coins when we get 'em!

five of rings

Here's one I loved to do. In my deck, I'm redeeming the fives. Especially the five of discs. Perhaps one meaning of the card can be material trouble...but WISDOM (mercury) in Earth (Taurus) would tell us that we must seek all our blessings, and they are around us always.

There's on old saying, "Money doesn't grow on trees." No, but FRUIT does...and here we see the fruit of wisdom...on the upper half of the tree of life. I couldn't resist making the rings pentacles in this case...the five of fives! Wisdom tells us that if we count our blessings ,even during times of financial duress, we will grow and build something much better. The tree is for growth, the building is shown in the masonry. And the fruit? Well, it's yellow and purple, two mercury colors. Enough of the dismal "out in the snow" feeling for this card! Free the fives!

Six of Rings

Next card done (will probably do the seven today).

I find that it's taking me about 6 hours to design, lay out, draft, ink and color one card. Pretty fast, really.

The six of rings shows interlocked hearts which are a riff on the six pointed star. The jewels on the rings are a hint at the meaning of the card "earthly success". The moon in taurus give the whole thing the "love" feel...and one way we express love in the material sphere is the giving and receiving of gifts...either charity (charity being a form of love) or gifting a loved one with some significant trifle. One heart is red (passion or body) and one blue (love or spirituality) and they interlock. The giving/recieving that is done in an act of charity is a symbiotic/codependent blessing relationship: the recipient gets the blessing, and the giver is also blessed. So the hearts are locked together. All this has a very sort of "moon in taurus" kind of feel.

First Court Card...Queen of Rings!

Who sez i have to go in order? I really wanted to produce a court card, so I could firm up in my mind just how they will look and work. I don't know why this one in particular, but here 'tis.

I depart stylistically, and yet maintain stylistic elements with the rest of the rings (coins) suit. This way the courts are markedly different from both the minors and the majors...and yet there are still crossovers, to unify the whole deck.

I'm excited now, because I can see how the whole deck will come together. I still have quite a ways to go, but I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I really went out on a limb with her color scheme!

7 of rings

Recently, posting here has been getting no response; I think it's cause i chose not to quit, and in some cases rejected some of the advice given. Some folks think you should always take their advice, and go off in a huff if you disagree. So I continue, anyhow, without the feedback since none is offered. Oh well.

The 7 of rings....

The Sickle is a symbol of Saturn: the slowest moving planet. Here, Saturn is in Taurus, which is the slow and plodding bull. Waiting for the harvest can be taxing when things are moving slowly. It can feel like your ship will never come in. Here, the reaper has gone so far as to give up, walk away, letting their tool go to rust. And look! The rings are blooming, and the grain is full in the head! But where is the reaper? Perhaps that is their gravestone in the back...or perhaps a window of opportunity. Success Unfulfilled is the traditional title of this card. Crowley retitled it "failure" but that is going too far. Nevertheless, the card is a warning not to give up too soon. Patience is essential at this time.
