Elemental Dignities - Weight of Cards

The above was originally posted by Nalini in Your Readings. As it wasn't relevant to the reading she did, I thought I would answer here.

When using EDs I pay most attention to the elements and not to the ranks of the cards. So, for example, if I had WE where the first W is a Major and E is a non-Court Pentacle, the Major would strengthen the E card, not overpower it because Majors are of a higher rank than Minors.

Similarly if I had a FW combination when the F number was 8 and the W number is 4, I wouldn't say that the F overpowers the W because there are more of them.

But if that approach (rank of cards) makes sense to you, you should explore it and see if it actually works for you.

Rodney,

Thanks much. Indeed I didn't realize that the question was not related to the other posting.

I'm just learning, hardly a day old so haven't really considered what works for me yet. Need some and practice to see what makes me comfortable.

Meantime, if the first is a major and second a court card, then how to go about it? Or say all three are majors, then should I consider the middle card and how it relates to the one on either side in terms of ED?

Thanks so much for your kind and generous guidance.

Nalini, have you checked out SuperTarot? That's where I learned EDs.

With the basic system of EDs, the relative weights of the cards don't matter. So a Fire Major, Fire Court and Fire Minor are all weighted equally.
