If, on reading Moonchild, you wonder about his ferocious demolition of the character "Edwin Arthwait," read also "Dead Weight" (attributed to "A. Quiller Jr."), a mock-eulogy memorializing the "death" of Arthur Edward Waite, "The disciple whom Crowley loved" (who was also very much alive when the Equinox was still in publication). It includes such gleefully vindictive nuggets as "If you can't be wise, look wise!" (imagined advice to Waite from his father), and "fear of Crowley is the beginning of wisdom," regarding Waite's equally imaginary subordination to "the Master" (guess who). Satirical skewering at the hands of Crowley would amount to character assassination in the grip of a lesser intellect.

Apart from these "playful" diversions, "The Vision and the Voice" contains some compelling imagery.

I like his sarcasm in Magick Without Tears. If you like Little Essays, I would suggest this next.

I'd second this recommendation. I think a biography would appeal and Churton's is I think the best one to start with. Or if you're really keen on reading Crowley, perhaps his autobiography.

Those who are watching the pennies might like to know that the paperback edition will be available on September 13th 2012.

Grigori, did you buy the Kindle edition? (If "no" stop reading now. )

I don't have Kindle so I could be wrong, but I believe it's possible to "zoom in" on text and pictures. In the photographic plates section there is a varient Magus card. On the right of the card near the Magus left leg can you see what the pink blob with blue and green bits is? I can't make it out. Is it a bunch of flowers or a squid? Or what?

Yeah, I have the Kindle version. Catch is I'm not sure where to find the plates without flicking through each page. Are the plates in the middle? Could you give me a quote of text from the page or one just before it I could search for? One problem with the kindle is flicking through to find something doesn't work so well!

I'm not at home at the moment so I can't find you a quote right now. But I do remember that the plates were in chapter 15, The Peacock Angel. Does that help?

Sorry to crow, but it is nice to know that these all-singing, all-dancing, new fangled contraptions have their limitations.

Unfortunately not, its not in Chapter 15 in the Kindle edition

And when you zoomed in on your print version, what did it show you? haha

Actually many books are great, they have hyperlinks set up and you can just click it to go to the images. But Mr Duquette hasn't done that in his book, so the index is not really functional. Sorry! I'll have another crack at it later on, or if can see any text on the same page I could search for

Maybe I got it wrong. But I'm sure it was in the Peacock Angel chapter. I'll check later.

Ok, later on I will quote the caption under the picture. That should do the trick.
