Interesting Take on the Celtic Cross
I came across this idea in a book called "A Magical Tour of the Night Sky." Is anyone using anything like the variation shown? ...........5a...5b...5c........... ..................5.................. ....4a.........................6a.. ....4b....4....2/1....6.....6b.. ....4c.........................6c.. ...................3................. ............3a...3b...3c.......... The idea seems to be that the "a, b and c" cards are like a sub-routine or "side-story" that leads up to or elaborates on the circumstances shown in the main position. I assume you would deal the three extra cards at the time you lay down the primary in each case, but I suppose you could also come back and fill them in after the whole standard spread is laid out, especially if there is any ambiguity about the meaning of a primary card. I kind of like this for getting extra detail out of each position. They might also work well as modifiers using elemental dignities. (And it creates a nice, round, qabalistic number of 22 cards in the completed spread )ETA: In further pondering how I might apply elemental dignities to this, I'm thinking I would first lay out the 10-card spread, then determine the element for each of the four primary cards. Next I would cut the remaining cards into four elemental packs similar to the OOTK first step, and take the 3 additional cards for each position from the sub-pack that matches the primary element (hopefully there would be a maximum of 12 cards remaining in each sub-pack). I'm also thinking I might run the "a-b-c" sequence clock-wise. __________________ Hamlet was right! But so was P.T. Barnum . . . Last edited by Barleywine; 19-07-2012 at 20:46. |

Is this different from using clarifiers? mm __________________ I suspect we have free choice, and all paths lead to enlightenment sooner or later. Perhaps a little. The methods I've seen for clarifiers involve the two cards on either side of the primary card, or drawing one or two additional cards as needed to modify the first one. This method involves three cards in addition to the primary, but the intent seems to be the same. I haven't used it yet, so I'm just theorizing. __________________ Hamlet was right! But so was P.T. I'll follow this one with interest... This thread may be a bit advanced for me I have tried drawing one card and sometimes a second to make more sense of a tricky one, but not the other method you mention. A bit advanced is the right level to eavesdrop on, methinx.
