I love the Radiant Rider Waite and I think it makes a superb beginner deck. As for decks that are similar to RWS, but different, I think the Gilded Tarot as well as the Sun and Moon Tarot might qualify. |

How close are we talking about? Also, what style? Neutral Tarot or darker? If they want a deck close to the RWS Tarot, they might as well use the RWS... Maybe one of the color variants if they don't like the colors. I think it's hard to choose without asking each person their preferences. Ideally, the images would be easy to read and the symbolism not too deck specific or out there. Although, if they really click with a deck with variant images, it gives some hands-on experience with reading even though they won't be as familiar with the RW until they seek it out. But the experience of reading is translatable. |
