Pets and crystal collar pendants?
I know Lotus Padma mentioned this sort of thing in a thread somewhere...she was making a crystal collar for her furry kid. As a reiki master who works with pets who need healing on a regular basis, I love that she is doing this and I am wondering both how other people feel about it and also if others would look for something like this for their pet? I ask because I am considering trying to make some "pet jewelry" for crystal healing but am not positive how I would go about it...I have found some online but they look very fragile and I could only see maybe an indoor cat or small dog having one of these. I would like to try and create something for the larger animal but I'm not sure how feasible that is or if anyone would want them. If you were going to buy healing crystals for your pet what would you look for? Any thoughts on this? __________________ ~wildchilde "It is a mathematical fact that the casting of this pebble from my hand alters the center of gravity of the universe." -Thomas Carlyle |

Crystal "bags" are OUT - darn things are too heavy ;p at least for my guy - and he is a big German Shepherd! The crystal healer here recommended 4 stones, and the bag hangs down too low. Also, the rougher crystals harmed the softer ones, gouging them. Not practical. You know what I'd like to see? A large, sturdy collar with the crystals in small, velcro'ed pockets behind (under) the collar, or, the crystals stitched on to the collar. That is my next attempt at making this work ;p Good luck! __________________ L' éssentiel est invisible pour les yeux. - Antoine de St-Exupéry, Le Petit Prince. I'm not needy. I'm wanty. there is a woman on etsy who makes them - her shop is called "AuraDog" I bought two. The one for my kitty turned out to be a waste, because she just wouldn't adjust to wearing a collar. The one for the dog, I am not sure if it helped. One is lost somewhere in my house, the other two are hanging on the zipper tab of my purse. The seller is a doll, so sweet, and the charms were packaged so nicely. The silver parts of them have not tarnished, and they are well made. Even if they have no real effect, they look really cute, as you can see here in the photo of her dog modeling one: http://www.etsy.com/listing/10234040...nding-hematite |

Thanks for the link, Bhavana. These are the type I have seen online before and they just look extremely fragile for most pets. Also, I know many pets would just find them completely annoying since they hang down. I could also see them being damaged or destroyed by metal vet/name tags and leash clasps. Quote:
thanks for the compliment on the jewelry making. I appreciate your support! I am trying to locate the "what are you working on now" thread to post pics of the newest earrings you asked for...

I did come up with a thought that will help me keep them on my dog, and that you could easily market - what if you took a bandana, and sewed little pockets in, and then rolled it once, with snaps that could be undone - or velcro - so that crystals could be changed, or recharged...how does that strike you? Many people enjoy bandana'ing their pets and then you could make, like, the world's most lovely bandanas, with crystals inside the crystal pockets the animal caregivers could consult with you about the problem, and you could put the right crystals in...? well, it's an idea...oooo! I am going to chat to go see your lovely earrings

Well....in the wintertime the dogs around here get to wear sweaters and some have little hoods so why not pockets? How big do the crystals have to be because I was thinking "chips" like the ones sold to make necklaces. Also some of the crystals are sold as beads. Ok most of the people here have those leashes that extend? Ive never looked at one up close but is there somewhere to attach a tiny bag/pouch to it? (somewhere near the collar?) Ok this is going to sound funny but for someone serious about using crystals on their pet....what about a special belt that wraps around the waist...I don't know or something that could be worn somewhere besides around their neck. Also I've seen it mentioned on the crystal site to sleep with some of the crystals to get the maximum benefit so how about concentrating on the bedding? One of the sites I was looking at concerning sleeping with crystals said you could take a regular pillowcase and sew a little pouch on it to hold the crystal. And then they suggested putting a button to keep the crystal from falling out. Velcro would be even better : ) Lotus your dogs are in style...I've only seen a few dogs...here and Ca that get to wear a bandana. If this were me I would go to Petsmart or the other chain I can't think of right now and browse the collars, toys, beds and keep an open mind as you may see something you can use or there may be something that will spark an idea of how you can make this work. |

oh, good one, DS, cause I know I read somewhere to put the crystals under their dog beds - because, if the crystal was not the right one for them, it would make them go sleep elsewhere, so you'd know if it was the right one or not for the dog those are good ideas for WildC! Me, I am just trying to figure out how to keep the darn crystals right against his skin and fur, and near his head and heart...I will try bandana, can't be worse than the other things I have tried, loL! __________________ L' éssentiel est invisible pour les yeux. - Antoine de St-Exupéry, Le Petit Prince. a few more ideas.....
Some of the dogs around here also wear a harness along with the collar. So maybe find a way to attach the crystals to a harness or create a harness that has special "pouches/pockets" to place the crystals Also Lotus your idea made me think of this....take a mesh type or other thin material in a rectangle shape...fold up the bottom edge and sew lines to create "dividers" where the crystals can be put and then this can be rolled/folded over the collar and held with the velcro. Also something for at home...take a nylon or I don't know if they sell something similar at a fabric store(or if you can think of something similar) tie a knot, put a crystal, tie a knot, another crystal...however many crystals you plan to use...the knots would keep the crystals from hitting on each other....and then this could be wrapped around the collar/harness/possibly the leash depending what type. HOW??? Lol I don't know...if there's a will there's a way : ) And then I keep getting the idea to "macrame" a special collar using the crystal beads or chips. Just trying to throw out some ideas as they may spark others : ) |

those were all awesome ideas, DS! Love the macrame idea, too I am sure WildChilde will be able to use these ideas to create something! Meanwhile, I will try the bandana idea, which works like your nylon idea (also a fab idea - the stones don't get lost or hurt, and they don't hurt the dog, either! )
