PROS:
*It follows the RWS system so most tarot books will be helpful to use with it.
*It is colorful and whimsical.
*It makes a good deck for young girls, and is often their first deck. My niece started with it and it is still her favourite deck even though she's now in her 30s.
*It's what I call a 'whispy' deck -- and by that I mean it has lots of flowing ribbons and tendrils curling around, and features unicorns and dragonflies and such.
*It is widely available and cheap.
*There is very little esoteric imagery.

CONS:
*The ornate borders make it feel rather cramped and it can be hard to make out images.
*Because the theme of the deck is a fantasy garden at night, all the cards have a dark background and again, some images are hard to discern. To be fair, that is in large part because this is meant to be a garden of discovery, where hidden things wait to be found.
*It might be too girly for some audiences.
*There is very little esoteric imagery.

Actually, depending on your point of view, both lists could be pros or cons.
I like the dark cards and hidden creatures.... the colours bare very good.... yes the borders are a bit large but they do kind of blend in more than some borders do on other decks... never seen one of these trimmed (as an aside...)

It is kind of whimsical.... I think it would be a fantastic deck for dream interpretation.... like the Mystic dreamer......I use a couple of methods of doing this which I got from the Mystic Dreamer book.... works really well for me.

Tarot of the Old Path

What do you all think

(I'm trying to decide what I want for my birthday)
PROS:
*Beautiful majors, chock full of imagery
*Easy to handle and shuffle cardstock
*Illustrated minors that do not deviate much from basic RWS meanings
*Suits are color-coded
*Expressive court cards
*Strong pagan/Wiccan influence (could be a CON)
*It is possible to read straight from the box

CONS:
*Some people complain of 'too much white space' around images
*Faces in minors have a pinched look, almost as if there was some distortion of images when applied to the cards; 'stretched' (this puts me off the deck quite a lot)
*Expressive faces limit range of interpretations
*Quirky 'pseudo-medieval' thing going on; damsels with pointy hats and wispy veils type stuff
*Strong pagan/Wiccan influence (could be a PRO)
*The companion book explains many of the images and symbols that you might otherwise miss, or notice but not understand

I second Carla's thoughts on this deck. I bought it because of its pagan theme. But in my opinion the Druid Craft is a better choice in that department. Also, the cards are larger and the art is better (again, IMO). Note, though, that the Old Path has MUCH sturdier card-stock, better suited to everyday use.

Any thoughts on The Crystal Visions Tarot? I keep vacillating back and forth on it.

Feels like this might be a long shot, but does anyone have any opinions on the Yoga Tarot?

I was unable to read with it. The images are attractive in a spare way, but from the expressions on their faces, everyone needs a good therapist and a prescription for antidepressants. It's grim.

It is really a Rider-Waite-Smith deck and retains more of the symbolism in the Major Arcana than you might at first think.

The cards have a sameness to them, lots of ferns and birch trees, a similar border on each card. The images are pretty simple so it is the kind of deck where the tarot meanings are most of the reading and not the kind where the images spark new intuitive interpretations each time.

The Pentacles are all bubbles. It seems strange that something so floaty would sybolize the earth suit. The reason is (according to the deck creator) that everything starts as thought before it manifests, so the Pentacles are thought bubbles to remind us of this. This seems a bit unconvincing to me. There isn't a real feeling of the elements in the Minor Arcana cards.

Most of the cards are night scenes. I love this aspect of the deck. The colors are soothing with a lot of lavender and green and white space.

It is a charming deck, more emotional than intellectual, and really seems to talk back to you when you use it. I can't explain this part very well. Maybe it is because it puts you in a child-like mindset which is a good mindset for accessing intuition.

I love yoga, do it several times a week, it changed my life, all for the good.

That said, this is the only deck I've ever owned I've never used. I just don't get it.

On the pro side it has all the good qualities of every LoS deck. Otherwise I'm guessing it was the Isthar of deck publishing.
