Temperence as self control or blending of opposites?
This is in regards to this post - http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=180691 I remember Thirteen once nicely explaining to me Temperance being a great omen in relationship readings because of the "blending of opposites" component to it; a peaceful road ahead for two people. But Temperance has been appearing a lot in the present position for me, especially when I really wanted to contact (or yell at, or cry to) an ex of mine but kept my cool and opted not to. That led me to believe it was referring to restraint, in these particular readings. I sent this person a peaceful letter, not really hoping anything; I sent it because I didn't want us to remember each other based purely on our last conversation (which was very Tower like, to say the least). Now when I asked if I will ever hear anything in response to this letter, I got 6 of Swords in the present position and Temperance in the future. This, to me, screams "moving on and restraining," meaning that no, I will not hear back. But a friend of mine claims 6 of Swords can simply point to moving to a different phase, especially paired with Temperance, simply indicating that in the future things will be peaceful between us. But I don't know...the Rider Waite imagery of the 6 of Swords really looks like "moving on for good" to me...their backs are turned to us....and since Temperance has been popping up to represent the present situation so often, in which we're not speaking, I suspect that if it shows up in the future now, then that's the way it'll remain. I would like a response but I don't want to lie to myself. Or, does the 6 of Swords reflect MY energy, as I've been surprised at how quickly I'm becoming okay with this break-up, since I'm realizing his qualities that I wouldn't be able to put up with?...I was asking about him, but I was advised to always look at the cards as at least partially reflecting my energy as I am the ones laying them out, and I am emotionally involved in the reading. Does the 6 of Swords necessarily indicate that I definitely will not even receive a response? (Mind you, this is not a reading about getting back together, just purely about whether or not I'll get a response of any kind to my e-mail). Thoughts?...I'm making myself confused lol. |

I think the cards are quite literally telling you to put all this behind you and restore balance in where you're focusing in your life. Hope this helps Dawn |

Yeah I think you're right. Just hard to do since this was a relationship where we assumed we'd get married, it was a big one. Thanks

Temperance is very controlled, measured, patient, and careful. So... in a way it is restraining yourself, but in a slow, methodical way that will get things *just right* because you are dealing with something tricky that you don't want to mess up. You have to remember also, that the 6 of Swords is still a 6- so it probably suggests that the both of you will move on in a way that will bring peace between the two of you.
