I really enjoyed The Language of Tarot by Roberta Lee. I have read a bunch of Tarot books and this one I still refer back to. I like the conversational style, to me it is like chatting with a friend who reads tarot. Also she has groupings in the back of the book and what they can point to - and those have come to me a few times with amazing results. In her explanations of the cards, she goes into combinations with other cards and how that effects meanings. I got mine on the kindle - and for a beginners book it was one of the best in my opinion. And like I said I still refer back to it quite regularly. |

One of my favorites is "Tarot and the Journey of the Hero" by Hajo Banzhaf. I recommend looking at Half.com to buy it online. It's a bit of an acquired taste, in that it looks at Tarot from a historical/archetypal perspective. It only goes through the Major Arcana, and includes a small pull out poster in the back of the "cycle" of cards. It's like being introduced to the Major Arcana as if they're people, characters in a Story, which I liked, and I loved the archetypal analysis of the cards. I would really recommend this for beginner students that are fond of Literature, particularly Historical Literature. Basically, if back in High School English class you were EXCITED to read the Epic of Gilgamesh, this book is for you. It's great for symbolism and history, and shows several of the older decks, BUT, this is not a book to learn spreads and the like from. |

I think my own beginner's book 'It's All in the Cards; Tarot Reading Made Easy' is one of the best Tarot books ever written! LOL! www.amazon.com/author/johnmangiapane __________________ I don't lead the parade - I AM THE PARADE! This is not rocket surgery, ya know! Bury the past - and move on to a new tomorrow. |

Tarot for Life by Paul Quinn helped more than any other book, beginner or otherwise. He makes the meanings of each card extremely clear, explains why they mean that, and includes a small story of how the card came up in a reading for a client. Plus a little box with keywords and stuff. Tarot Plain and Simple is a handy reference that includes a ton of definitions for each card, upright and reversed, and also includes what kind of people are represented by each and every card reversed and upright as well. 78 Days Around the Tarot is a good beginner workbook so it Tarot 101 by Kim Huggens as great as well. |

My favorite books right now (and I wish they had come along sooner) are Around the tarot in 78 days - Marcus Katz and Tali Goodwin and The tarot playbook - Lynda Cowles. |

My first book was Tarot for Beginners by Barbara Moore, which I found really helpful in the beginning and not overwhelming at all. True, it's a limited scope, but it made me feel much more comfortable diving right in. Best of luck to you! __________________ "I don't want whatever I want. Nobody does. Not really. The best book I have read, for both beginners and advanced, is called The System of Symbols: a new way to look at Tarot by Toni Allen. If anybody is interested i would be happy to spell out why it is different, unique in fact and better than the rest [yes, i really do think it is the best!], though you can see the Amazon reviews, except the unreasonable 3 star, do it 5 star justice. It is 400+ pages available from Lulu (it is priced high on Amazon!) also as an ebook or Kindle http://www.lulu.com/shop/toni-allen/...-16957846.html Last edited by Beacon; 16-12-2012 at 11:29. |
