Some folks were asking me why Thalassa decided to move out of San Fran, if she is still a member here, perhaps I can have her pop over to explain. But suffice it to say that Thalassa is always looking out for us to try to keep the pricing down,...especially in rough economic times. I checked out the regular rates at the Doubletree at San Jose. Wow! I can't believe the difference in pricing,....it's,....it's almost normal. This is not to say I may have been looking at an off-seasonal price, but if not what a bargain!! The Doubletree is a Hilton owned and run hotel; I have stayed at them for various conferences and I must say I have never been disappointed with the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff at them. It may actually be cheaper for me to fly there with 1 stopover, but we shall see, since I hate running from one plane to the next. And speaking of running, I enjoyed "running into" Rodney and others from AT at BATS. I had a great time, didn't buy anything really, just enjoyed myself and the company I kept completely. Looking forward to next year.

I am a bit apprehensive about next year, given the change of venue! But as we get closer, I will contact the hotel and restaurant and see if it is feasible. The best thing about the Golden Gateway Holiday Inn is that Whole Foods was just right there! Now that I have diabetes AND Celiac Disease, logistics just got more difficult! I did a search of the area and there aren't many super markets in the immediate vicinity. And the rooms don't have a fridge. Though, I might call and ask if in room fridge/microwave can be arranged given my special needs. (I am so darned special!). I have a year to plan - so hopefully it all works out! |

When I stayed at another Doubletree, they had a fridge in the room, I didn't have to ask for it. So you may want to call them and ask; they're very accomodating, especially for your needs. I happen to like Hiltons and honestly I almost did a backflip when I saw the price of a room in just looking. Also as a side note, it is close by the Winchester Mystery Mansion, which is reportedly haunted and I think someone else mentioned a Rosicrucian Museum there as well. Stuff to do as well as BATS.
