I'm still doing my weekly draw: 2 cards for general, and 3 for week to come. Always on Sunday. Every time I do it, I sit down first and go over the previous week's to see if what happened is what I SAID was going to happen. Usually it does, although I'm a lot less "certain" ahead of time..."may be this, may be that...." Hindsite is 20-20 they say. Of course, doing this has nothing to committing to a specific deck...it could be a different deck every week. One thing that is interesting is how often there's a common card. Right now, there are two: Queen of Pents and The World. Closely related. Funny because I'm finishing up drawing my major arcana, and "the World" is on my table right now. So "what's going on" is my reflections on that card, and bringing it into the physical world as a finished piece of art. I have feelings of attainment. Matter of fact, one draft I did of her was putting her in the middle of the traditional victory wreath, but in a cap & gown, with a diploma in one hand, and pumping her fist! I didn't go with that version, but that's the idea!

I plan on finishing the card tomorrow: my Birthday.

And my subconscious has entered the Shadowscapes!

I dreamed of following the mermaid of the 8 of Cups into a fisherman's net. Her tail and hair were blood-red, and I had to go to a library to find some way to compel the fishermen to let her go.

In another dream, fish were floating in the air, in my room. Two fish with friendly faces swam up to me, reminding me of Goopy and Bagha from Haroun and the Sea of Stories. Then a moray eel came by and ate them. A school of three fish speared the eel in retaliation.

These are very unhappy dreams, for such creative and beautiful paintings.

I'm toying with the idea of switching to the new Steampunk tarot. I'm crushing hard. And I may be writing a review of it for one of the websites I work for!

Hello, everyone! I hope you have all been well. I have been MIA for some time now, but the semester is finally over! Now I will have the time to roll up my sleeves and get back to serious Tarot work. I look forward to continuing my PDR adventures and sharing them with all of you. And I must say it's about time, too...I've been missing my daily draw and I am definitely ready to get back to work.

Dark Deck?

You guys know I love the Shadowscapes... it's so elaborate that the oft-feared cards are seriously brutal, (except for Death, it's so bright and optimistic,) but, lately I've been feeling a hankering for something literally shadowy, as in darker. I'm not going to switch decks to study this late in the year, but I'm already thinking about what sort of deck I can switch to for the next year.

I'm thinking either the Deviant Moon, the Secret Forest, or the Dark Angels.

Thoughts or suggestions?

This reminds me, even though I stuck with it longer than planned/much longer than I usually do with one deck, and I may go back to it some point in the nearish future, no longer doing a PDR with the Thoth. Vaguely tempted to commit myself a bit to the Navigators but...not sure at this point, eh.

Shadowscapes PDR

While not a personal reflection, I would like to make a note on the card stock of the Shadowscapes. I was okay with it being thin, because it's got this lovely purple sheen that all goes very well with its ethereal, fey artwork. I even riffle-shuffled them and it was fine.

Warning: don't get it wet. Not even a little. Slightly sweaty hands will make it warp and/or peel.

And, as I found out a few days ago, just doing a reading by the pool, in direct sunlight? Will make the cards curl up after about ten minutes.

If the Thoth system is fresh in your mind, and the Navigators is from a sister-system of sorts, why not?

It's been over 6 months since I've posted here or in the readings thread, and quite honestly, almost that long since I've picked up a deck to read with. It's been a busy period of lots of ups and downs. The sad thing is that when life gets rough like that, one of the first things I drift away from(readings) is something that could be helping me the most! Actually, most all of the things I start eliminating would benefit me greatly in those times of stress!

Things aren't quite as hectic now, so I'm picking up my cards and starting once again! I did a Mind, Body, Spirit reading for myself the other night, extending it to include a second row/set of cards(see layout below) as advice for moving forward(4, 5, 6) from where I am now(1, 2, 3). None of the first row seemed to make sense to me for where I'm at, until I read the Shadow(reversed) meaning in the book, found the answers I was looking for there. Then it all made such wonderful sense to me!

1...2...3
4...5...6

It also feels like I need to indulge in a bit of a refresher of general meanings, numerology, etc., so I'm going to be working on that as well, now.

I'm still working with my wonderful Gaian for personal readings, and think I'll continue with it for the time being. Although, I'm sure I'll be playing with some of my other favorites and taking a closer look at some of the newer ones to join the crowd that have been languishing on the shelf/in boxes since my move in August. *nods* I'm looking forward to getting back into practice quite a bit!

Sorry you got away from it all. So did i. I can't even remember for sure what my PDR deck was! Oh, yeah, it was the Celtic. Here's what happened for me. I went and did public readings on the street mall back in May. I ended up using the Thoth exclusively for that, and found it to be such a good reading deck for the sitter, that that was all I used. When June rolled around, I dug into designing the minor arcana for my own deck (a work still in progress...I'm finisning up the wands cards today) and didnt get back to reading much, for myself or others, untill I got a Halloween gig, and went and did readings again.

I expect my own deck (The Wickwillow Tarot, you can see the thread here, http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=171257

...will become my primary deck once it's done...which will probably be early 2013 at this rate.

meantime, I'll probably jump around a bit.

*waves* Hi Mallah! Ah, you were involved in tarot activities, though......I've finally had time to check out your progress on your deck! Nice!

I just let the busyness of life interfere with the 15-30 minutes in the mornings when I'd been doing my readings. And the move in August was a nightmare. I didn't really have time to get organized for the move, so it was just load up the boxes and move them. NOT fun!

I'm getting back in the groove with a two carder to ponder throughout the day. I just haven't been posting them every day. Two days a week, I'm out the door by 6:30 am and not home from work till 8:30 at night, but I do get the chance to journal by hand on those days.
