I have both sets of the Golden Tarot. First one l bought 7/8 years ago was printed in china and the cardstock is strong but not too thick, l found it easy to shuffle and they have lasted really well. The 2nd edition was bought as a gift and l was pleasantly surprised that they came with a nice gloss that shows the cards up beautifully. The card stock is the same but appear to be ever so slighty thicker because of the gloss. This second edition was printed in china. Just to add both sets have gilded edges. I have both the older version and the new glossy one as well. I didn't think the gilt edges fit with the slick glossy cardstock on the new edition so I trimmed them. The cardstock is a bit thinner than the older version, but I admit I prefer the older matte edition much more. I don't think it's that kinda deck to be made glossy. __________________ I probably shouldn't be here. But this was the only universe with a vacancy. |

Well I have received an email from Stuart Kaplan who confirmed that this deck is printed in China. So it can not be as glossy as the Italian prints IMHO

Was this deck ever printed as an uber glossy Italian print? Because I am a fan of those uber glossy Italian prints and that is the one I would look for. ![]() (Just curious.) __________________ LOL I:1. Oh hai. In teh beginnin Ceiling Cat maded teh skiez An da Urfs, but he did not eated dem. |

I don't think so. It can't have been since it was printed in China.

Okay, the reason I am asking is that U.S. Games went through a certain period where they were printing decks in Italy with uber glossy lamination. At that period in their history, I don't know if they were printing (a) no decks in China, or if they were printing (b) some decks in China and others in Italy, or (c) all decks in Italy. I had thought at the time, though, that all U.S. Games decks were being printed in Italy. Does anyone know? I just don't know the answer to that. __________________ LOL I:1. Oh hai. Just received my deck from Book Depository (that was quick!). It cost 10.85 English Pounds plus postage of 4.02. It says Made in China on the box. First, presentation box is lovely, very sturdy. Gorgeous presentation. The cards themselves have a gilt edge (not the borders around the images themselves, that's brownish in colour, but the very edge of the cards. You can't really see it when you pull one card by itself but when several cards are together they are nice and golden and shimmery. The card stock is atleast double the thickness of my Old English Tarot and very very glossy. Infact, they're even glossier than the Old English. As I haven't seen the original First Edition of this deck I can't compare the two but quite honestly, even though I wanted the satin mat finish of the Deviant Moon I now realise that I don't mind, I love these cards all ready. They feel sturdy and look beautiful. They shuffle easily although they may have a tendency to jump so care will be needed. Very happy with my purchase Off to read the little book which came with it.

Thanks, moonbear. I am pleased to hear that they are "very very glossy"! And the cardstock thickness sounds nice. Thanks for your review.

I just wanted to add (as I just received the Golden today), that the cards are really glossy very much like my Italian ultra glossy decks in my collection. But in a different way like it's more on the surface of the card. My Hanson Roberts Italian printing feels like it's plastic-like whereas the Golden feels like over time the glossiness may dull, but just a little bit. I hope this makes sense! I wonder if anyone that has been using the Golden for a while can confirm if the glossiness is wearing? I think it is glossy in a way that reminds me of the card stock of the Illuminated Tarot (almost identical) or the glossy Morgan Greer deck. I really like it actually but I also like the matte finish version
