hope this is in the right thread if not please feel free to move. I wish to know just how accurate the yes/no spread really are, you all know the the spread lay 3 cards and if 2 or 3 are upright then yes is your answer if 2 or 3 are rx then the answer is no. Just how accurate is this spread, i sometimes ask a question when i know the answer and i get a no when in fact it should be a yes. Has this happened to you? Any advice or opinions on this would be appreciated, Thanks in advance Louise __________________ thank you and may the angels be with you Last edited by louiseb; 22-09-2012 at 22:00. |

I have had AMAZING results with asking a yes/no question, however I do not do a 3 card spread. I just pull one card, and find the answer in the image. But, i have only done this for me, I haven't tried this when reading for someone else. |

hmm interesting i did try this lol but i found i was looking for the answer i wanted and not what was in the card, we could class this as a form of cheating i suppose. Thank you for your advice. __________________ thank you and may the angels be with you |

I'm with beekie on this matter of yes/no queries. In my opinion, a simple, straightforward question such as this requires only one card to answer. As soon as you start pulling more, you risk muddling the answer with unnecessary information overload. Just my two cents.

Yeah ... haven't had accurate readings with Yes/No spreads. There was one in particular that I found on here ... I think it was the Mary K yes/no spread using Wheel of Fortune card - it gave me a 'no' answer and what's worse the reason for the 'no' was the Tower card! Which made my heart sink. Thankfully it was completely and totally wrong. I find yes/no spreads to be pretty much useless and have never really worked for me. The only yes/no form of reading is to pull one card. That is the only time when I've gotten pretty accurate results. Of course, like you said, you have the risk of reading into it what you want, rather than being objective. Again, that's just my personal experience

I totally disagree with reading one card as a yes or no. First of all, yes/no questions can be very ambiguous; depends on how you phrase it. I don't want to start a religious debate here, but asking if someone is in Purgatory for instance & expecting tarot to say yes or no is a big stretch. Just WHAT if Purgatory doesn't exist? How is the tarot going to answer that one? (I went thru Catechism, I'm just trying to make a point. For instance, a Hindu wouldn't state it quite that way.) Do you get what I'm saying? People with religious beliefs differing from yours use tarot also. Another, the cards have images for a reason. If you're going to base your reading on whether the card is Rx'd or not, at least take into account what that particular card means, don't just glance at it & say, oh, it's upside-down so that's got to mean 'no'. Tarot is not that simple. It has layers on top of layers, on top of more layers (only one card can have many many meanings in a reading!)...you may as well throw twigs. There are many who use unillustrated pips, but I never quite liked it, which I equate with the reading being determined on whether the card is reversed or not. I've tried working with them; I simply like using what strikes my fancy in the images. Helps my intuition. __________________ Eat dessert first. You never know what might be going to happen. |

I don't use Tarot for yes or no questions. In fact I won't flip a coin either. Only because I would doubt the answer. If I am really stumped I might do a three card spread where the middle is the issue, flanked on either side by options or outcomes, for acting or not acting. I have tried yes or no questions a couple of times, but it doesn't work for me. I don't think it is wrong in any way, it just doesn't work for me.

I don't use the Tarot for yes/no questions. I feel that the Tarot is rather ill-suited for this. To me the Tarot is more likely to give an answer of "well, here is why you're being bothered enough to ask this question." When someone comes to me with a yes/no question (and they only want that and not an in-depth look at the issue), I break out my pendulum. A pendulum is extremely good at answering yes or no. Tarot - answers "yes, know" Pendulum - answers "yes or no" __________________ "A famous person once said; 'you can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time' ... but, as I (an even more famous person) say; 'if you don't teach them to read, you can fool them whenever you like!'" I don't think tarot is the right tool for answering questions that need a yes or no answer. Tarot is descriptive. It describes situations and the energies around them. A tarot reading is like taking a picture of a situation and examining it from angles that you can't see when you're in the midst of that situation. You can see things from different perspectives and points of view. Tarot reflects the whole situation back at you. I think using tarot to answer yes / no questions is like using a screw driver to hammer in a nail... Why do it when other things work better? Tarot describes so there's always going to be some ambiguity when you're trying to work out whether a certain card or cards actually mean yes or no. Flip a coin or use a pendulum. __________________ 'Be excellent to each other' - Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. 'the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.. i wouldnt advocate using a yes no spread at all.. a great deal of insight is needed to fully understand a question and i would not personally support making any decisions on this kind of reading.. if you were going to attempt it.. i would suggest a long period of meditation before you did this to really focus on the question at hand.. hope this helps.. paula |
