Oh yeah, I forgot. Tzaddi is not The Star, Heh is. The Emperor is way down there on Path 28. What in the worlds [sic] was I thinking? I'm afraid the Demiurge will never learn humility, regardless of his location. He is, after all, Samael, the blind god. He doesn't know where he is.

ETA. Aeon418, you have destroyed my lofty conception of The Emperor. Never again will I see that card without thinking of the Demiurge. However, in BOT, Crowley observes that (in the Thoth deck) "...the white light which descends upon him indicates the position of this card in the Tree of Life. His authority is derived from Chokmah, the creative Wisdom, the Word, and is exerted upon Tiphareth, the organized man." This, of course, is the Golden Dawn position on Path 15, not 28.

I suppose the Emperor's humble repositioning of the Throne to Path 28 must come after the publication of BOT, right?

Welcome to the crazy mixed up world of card/path swapping.
Crowley's diaries show that he moved the Emperor several decades prior to the publication of the Book of Thoth. This swap was shared with his private students, but wasn't published until 1944. A good example can be found in Crowley's magnum opus, Magick in Theory and Practice (1929), where he continues to use the old attribution (Emperor-Heh) but in a footnote calls it "exoteric" and "sufficiently informative for beginners".

The trouble starts in the Book of Thoth when Crowley reveals his swap and then appears to contradict himself. Compare his comments on the Emperor to the chapters on the Star and the Ace of Swords (don't miss the footnote ). Is this intentional error? Or merely bad editing? To discover the definitive answer flip a coin! I have my own ideas, but this is the wrong subforum.

Getting back to the RWS Emperor, I find it interesting that he breaks with tradition and sits in a full frontal pose. There may be a stream or even the Abyss right behind him, but if it's not in his field of perception it does not exist for him. It's a good picture of the conscious mind and it's limitations. But then again the Emperor on the path of Heh may serve has a temporary "visible object of worship" to help you reach Tiphareth - LVX. After that you might need a deck upgrade. Where's the NOX ?

from what i can tell i have have a pam-a repro, but the lettering isn't hand done. think my other deck (the "original") is a pam-c, but it's dark and late and i can't go rummaging for it right now.

remember seeing pics of a deck that went for something like $8,000, and the sky in the 5 of swords was white, not blue. anyone know which deck that's in? so confusing. are there any places to see ALL the cards, in a b c & d form? (holly's page only compares the sun.)

Hi, arya ishtar. This thread contains links to Pam-A-C collection by kenji.

I believe the $8,000 deck is Rose & Lily deck.
