Jessica, the extra card you gave me just happens to be one of my favorites - Seven of Cups. Those dragons are so charming!

one of my favorites as well. they are, aren't they? totally capture the mood of the card without being a total redux of the conventional :]

The devil is the one who's terrible, not you. And I'm glad you see what I put in the picture, as it was difficult to think of a way to draw that.
I was telling my husband last night that the card really works, when I think about it. Someone caught up in their own pleasure, not even willing to share with another...lol. He's negated the need for someone else, but he hasn't filled his heart, only satisfied his lust.

I received Jessica Shanahan's Tarot of the Absurd yesterday and it was love at first sight.

The cards measure 3 inches x 4-3/4 inches...comfortable in my hands. The card stock is supple, more of a semi-gloss than a blackboard flat matte. It's perfect for the white on black art. The card back is a simple, reversible, black on white design. The cards come in a ribbon-tied sleeve. 78 cards, plus an extra Moon card, a signed and numbered title card, and an extra numbered "thank you" card from the deck. A tidy package. (No, I'm NOT telling what my "extra" card was, but it was PERFECT for me. Jessica must be psychic! )

The card art is amazing. Trite, but oh so true. It throbs with energy, joy, exuberance, and passion.

For example: the fool

http://barefootfool.com/the-fool-tarot-of-the-absurd-2/

Taking a blind leap of faith, the fool sets upon his/her adventure, bone in hand for the dog jumping alongside. This card conveys a breathless, "go for it...OMG, what am I getting into?" sense of giddy excitement.

Each card in this deck has a story to tell....and this deck cries out for a companion book, not so much for interpretation (it is RWS based, if you know RWS you can read this deck) but for the concepts behind each card. Jessica Shanahan, creator of Tarot of the Absurd, shares many of her card stories in her online tarot journal, but I want them bundled for offline reading. A downloadable PDF format might do the trick! (hint, hint, Jessica! )

Read the Tarot of the Absurd journal here:

This deck is a treasure. I recommend it wholeheartedly and say "grab it" while Jessica still has copies to sell.

Great mini review, Rhinemaiden, thank you!

I can't wait to get mine, which was shipped just the other day.

YES!!!
There are a lot of beautiful artsy decks that have recently come out or that are about to come out, but this is the only one that says "tarot" to me and is completely readable (instead of just some lovely images).
