Dark Grimoire - The back design
A gloomy Lovecraft stands front and center holding tighly to the highly sought after grimoire while macabre figures stare out behind H.P. with lurid otherworldly eyes. A small light from a star or the moon in the distance illuminates the dark clouds and landscape below. Although the scene may be appear dark and ghoulish, one must remember that the man holding the book is the author of it and it's contents are really just an extension of his own psyche. From Buddha to Jung, many beautiful minds have believed that light represents knowledge and freedom from ignorance, so I kinda feel the back design suggests that even though this deck is dark themed it can revel the light of truth to those who are motivated/brave/truthful enough to work with it. The 'Don't look and it won't hurt' ethos is the exact opposite of what this deck is trying to convey. Some of us like myself do have a more Autumn/winter personality than a spring/summer one and who is to say which is more positive or advantageous? This design is based on a real picture of Lovecraft. This has to be my most favourite back design ever. I have provided scans. Freddie Freddie __________________ "Remember that a chain of flowers is more difficult to break than a chain of iron". Just this afternoon I read or rather re- read "The Call of Cthulhu" after having watched a 1925 silent version of the movie last night. Good stuff ! I've always been a fan of H.P. Lovecraft and have to agree that the backs of the Dark Grimoire are just fabulous. On that note, I am going to pull out the deck right now and study the images. Thank you for sharing Freddie ! __________________ If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it |
