Queen of Pentacles as commitment/domestic situation?

She seems to be all about home and mothering, nurturing and keeping house, am I understanding this right?

Like the Empress, all Queens are about "keeping house," mothering, nurturing. They are, if you will, the ones who maintain the castle, running it while the King decides what the kingdom will do next. The question is, what kind of house, what kind of mothering and nurturing? The Queen/Pents often fits into one of two types of "Mom":

(1) The Earth Mother who gardens, bakes, knits, etc--frugal, homey. All her kids have chores to do, have an allowance, and are expected to get out in the sun and exercise; she is a great mom for teaching kids independence and responsibility. She would, however, not be the best mom for a scholarly kid as she wouldn't understand him wanting to read rather than playing outside or accomplishing more tangible things. Like building a tree house.

(2) The Corporate Mom--a woman who knows how to make and manage money, she's expensive but conservative. Having the best is important, but it must be tasteful. She is a great mom when it comes to making sure kids are well rounded, social and polite. She would not be good, however, at nurturing an artist or free-spirit, as her idea is to set a standard for society in dress, manner, decor, not to be outside it.

Does that help?

For me Queen of Pent is a woman who likes order and looks for security... therefore looking for a household where she can raise a family is an aspect of her...
she wants to settle down... go back to earth to become fertile and produce new life just like earth does...

I think in many cases "her home is her castle" and she often likes pets and animals as well as children.

Aha, thank you all very much. Thirteen, it certainly does help, and all of these comments confirm what I suspected.

I wondered because this seems like a very positive card, but it came up as the answer to "what does X find LEAST attractive about Y?". So my take was that if X is a guy who is absolutely not looking for any committed relationship, or domestic responsibilities, that exactly these qualities just as JadoreHauteCouture and Septimus have described would be very unattractive to this guy.

Like that first date scenario where the lady asks the guy straight off how many kids he'd like to have, and keeps talking about what type of wedding she's always wanted. Unattractive indeed in that context!

For me anyway, Pentacles are about the goals we set to achieve what we want to and the work necessary to make those goals reality. The Queens are working on things together, in a cooperative way, a willingness to compromise, with all parties being equal and the points of views of each being treated equally, ....

So my answer to your question is that they are commited to (have set a goal to) work together to have a relationship based on true equalty, where they work together towards common goals, and where each one is willing to let go of what they need if the needs of the other are stronger in the siuation, in the faith and trust that when their need is more important the other will be there for them.

But then, no one can tell you if you are seeing it right or not. We all have different ways to read. Especially for the Courts. There is no right or wrong really. You just learn and try new things and stick with what works best for you, But no one can tell you what is right or wrong for you. What works best for you is what is right for you, That varies from person to person, with you way of thinking, your personality and even your goals as a reader.

I think you're right on although I dislike the mothering sense because I think men can be the Queen of Pents too. Mothering seems to set up a power divide and although she is a Queen I don't know if I would see it as one person having dominance, necessarily. I think Queen of Pents as a description of a domestic situation is wonderful - nurturing the senses, keeping the house clean, taking care of things, making good investments. Ensuring the comfort of the home, which can help nurture other parts of the soul. Just my two cents.

Thanks Seagrass. I think "nesting" was the basic concept I had in mind, and you're right, men can certainly be as nurturing and "mothering" as women. I also don't really think of mothering as any sort of power struggle, I think of it more just as taking care of everyone, making sure their needs are met and all, rather than the authority aspect of it.

But this meaning seems to tie in the most sensibly with this context.
