3 of Pents and 8 of Pents closely related?
These both seem to have much to do with hard work, focusing on goals, professional achievements, being master of one's craft, independence, and drive to succeed. What do you see as the major differences between them? Would 3 be more of having already reached a certain level of success, while 8 would be more about working towards that? |

I feel like the 3 is more about gaining recognition from someone and getting help from that someone to advance further with your work. It's about getting help from others to accomplish your goals. Whereas the 8 is about working hard to prove something, especially to yourself, but it could also be about trying to prove yourself to someone else, like a new boss. But it's more about wanting to take pride in your work. |

Just to add to the others ... I tend to see Three of Pentacles as about planning and attention to detail and co-operation. I feel like there is more of an element of teamwork with Three of Pentacles. Whilst both share the attention to detail, Three of Pentacles is more in the planning stage of the detail whereas Eight of Pentacles is the 'doing' bit. Eight of Pentacles is honing your skills, can be repetitive, working hard and going over something and putting in alot of effort but I tend to see it as a more solo effort. Disclaimer: I am not suggesting these are the only interpretations of these cards but this is how I tend to differentiate between them.

3/P is co operation. 8/P is the master of its field, working alone. |

I see the 3 of pents as something created through a union, yes it is hard work but it is team work, the ability to work together in order to achieve a goal and gain recognition for your part. The 8 of pents I see as where your passion lies this is the thing you are prepared to invest your blood, sweat and tears in, solitary work yes, but ultimately where you will get the most satisfaction. |

I'm in agreement with the above. 3/Pents is about teamwork--so to speak. Meaning the craftsman may be a master craftsman (with those working under him) or just someone new and inventive, but, either way he requires investors, partners or employers. Which means he's going to have to bend his vision to suit their requirements. As the 3/Pents tends to indicate, this can be a good thing. Bouncing ideas off others, having others to take care of red tape while you focus on the actual work, can make a project really come together fast, well and successfully. So, on the one hand, it's about a team effort (positive) which, given the 4/Pents, usually leads to wealth. On the other hand, the man who has investors or those who hire him can't do whatever he likes; even if if they trust him implicitly, it's their money, their project and he has to make them happy; which means he may not get personal satisfaction; and having others relying on him may create a lot of pressure (negative). 8/Pents indicates either (or both) the small scale workman or apprentice. Honing one's skills or learning new ones. But either way, it's spending your time attending to what you want to attend to. You may be working in obscurity and with limited resources (negative), but you can do this small thing exactly as you want and to your personal satisfaction (positive). This can lead, as we see in the 9/Pents, to earning just enough money for that secluded comfort spot--your own workshop or studio, home business or hideaway, all yours, just the way you want it, no outside pressure. |

well, ive seen all these business-like explanations so i might my versions as well... 3 of pent - building something... having good base but still need to move your azz and realize that plan... 1 pentacle is the resources, 1 pentacle is the idea behind and planning, and the third one is hard work that needs to be added to be successful... in many tarots u see working men with pentacles... like Cosmic tarot for instance... 8 of pent - it could mean enjoying the cash flow and nourishing business... but many times, especially not talking money-wise, i see 8 of pent as a problem... in 7 of pentacles, there is a problem or obstacle that is in a sitter's way and he cannot do anything.... in 8 of pent, sitter put this obstacle or a problem into his mind and now sits and does nothing but complaining..... everytime you have a sitter with a problem and he pulls 8 of pent, you have to kindly explain to him, he saw the problem for so long, he created the problem himself... and that he can fix it himself... unlike in 7 of pent when the problems are outer circumstances and powers.... __________________ Enlighten yourself... |

Wow, thanks all. This is helping to clarify. The question was not even business related so I found it surprising that so many Pentacles would show up. Now since the 3 has been stated by several of you to be about needing investors, or needing others to keep their work going, or being on the planning end of the work, do you all think it could represent someone who acts as an agent (like for a performer, model or an athlete for instance), whose primary function is business development, like attracting new investors or clients? Or would it more likely represent someone who is actually IN that field themselves, in an advanced level (the performer/model/athlete), or someone in some field where they do the actual work as part of a team but act as essentially the team leader, or project coordinator? Like the scientist who is leading a research study, as opposed to the grant-writer who is soliciting funds for the experiments to continue? |

There are three people there, remember? So it could represent the artist, agent and investor. |
