Would you suggest the Deviant Moon for a newbie?
Hello there! I am new to both AT and tarot, and I am in the amazing process of trying to choose a deck. I have seen the most traditional options, of which the Morgan-Greer was my favorite one - however, I looked at the Deviant Moon and I just felt an immediate connection. Some people might say it is a dark, or even negative, deck, but I can really sense the Rider-Waite imagery there, and I feel that reading with it would be much more informative and interpretative than with the safe option of a Morgan-Greer. So, the thing is: would you recommend a Deviant Moon for a newcomer such as myself? Thank you very much! |

I believe its meanings and artistry is close enough to RWS to start with. There are quite a few differences, though. Be sure to check out the Study Group for it, if you do decide to get it. If you feel a connection, I would say go for it! Just be aware of the characters "different" facial expressions. __________________ --Eeviee "Ignorance only makes Intolerance stronger..." |

Sure, why not? It's RWS based anyway, and besides, sometimes it takes an interesting deck to keep one interested and inspired to learn more. |

RWS based and seems to have a sense of humor. It's not dark, it's just the colors that might make it seem that way. It's not anymore negative than any other deck, IMO. |

It was my learning deck, and it's what helped me to finally LEARN the cards vs. running to my book to look up every card in a reading. That said, I do think the plain old RWS is the best deck to learn on. However, if you are drawn to the Deviant and not the RWS, I would still recommend it. It worked for me! |

Why not learn by using both decks side by side, the Deviant Moon and the Rider Waite Tarot? I used to do that when I was first learning, I would just lay the cards out side by side and compare them. __________________ One Deck Wonder - Tarot of the Sidhe and Froud Faeries' Oracle - Beltane to Summer Solstice 2013 |

Yes! If you're drawn to it, you'll like it even more in the flesh. For me this deck reads so effortlessly. I had it out again only last night. |
