Padparadschah Sapphire - trouble finding its properties

We were discussing engagement/wedding rings in the thread about diamond properties, but my engagement ring stone isn't a diamond, so I thought I'd start a new thread for it. One thing is, I'm having great difficulty finding the metaphysical properties of this gemstone! It's a padparadschah sapphire (pinkish-orange or orangish-pink depending on the light). It's one of the rarest colors, and there isn't much information about it beyond the purely gemological. I am well aware of its Moh's hardness, specific gravity, and coloring agents, every gem/mineral website has that, but almost nothing about spiritual or healing properties unique to it. There are plenty of properties for the other colors - blue, yellow, pink, green, purple, orange, white, black - but padparadschah isn't technically orange OR pink. The only place I found on the Web that had a substantial list of padparadschah properties was classifying it as orange sapphire.

I'm assuming that the powerful healing and clarifying properties of sapphire in general also apply to padparadschah, but it's getting to be rather frustrating not being able to find anything specific to this exact type of sapphire! I guess I could do a synthesis of the pink and orange sapphire properties, compare/contrast/combine them, but that seems like a cop-out. Green sapphire's properties aren't just a synthesis of blue and yellow sapphires', for instance.

As "padparadschah" literally means "lotus colored," I wonder if the symbolism of the lotus plant/flower could also apply to the stone. I'm not really up on my botanical metaphysical studies, so I'd have to do more research into the lotus. I know it's a powerful symbol and it's all over Tarot decks (actually everything I know about lotus is what I learned from Tarot!).

I'm not asking anyone to do my research for me, but I'd appreciate any ideas about where I could find more information and how you'd approach this issue. I wear the ring all day, every day (even in the shower - it does not come off), so I'd definitely like to know a lot more about the stone!

***
For thread searchability, here are some alternate spellings: padparadsha, padparadscha, padparadshah.

Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem, and Metal Magic. I highly recommend this book. It has everything to quartz to sapphire even sulpher and gold. Its a great read.

"Sapphire-Psychism, love, meditation, peace, defensive magic, healing, power, and money."

This site is great too with crystals. It sometimes quotes stuff from Cunningham.

I took a look at some pictures of this and I must say the color is really unique! Wow.
Judging by the name this must be from India? I´ve never heard of this before so maybe it is not very common?
Maybe you will have to find out its´metaphysical properties yourself? Any ideas of how this might be different than the blue sapphire?

It's definitely very unique and beautiful! It was originally discovered and the best stones still come from Sri Lanka, the name is Sinhalese. In the late 1990's it was also found in Madagascar, and the stones were judged to have a comparable quality to the Sri Lankan deposits and allowed to be callled "padparadschah" too. My stone is from Madagascar, I got it from a fair-trade-certified African gem merchant who buys directly from local miners. There are other somewhat similar stones in Tanzania but the quality and color don't match the Sri Lankan stones well enough for mineralogists/gemologists to call them padparadschah.

I think probably the best way to start figuring out its properties would be to do a chart comparing pink and orange sapphire and see what applies and what doesn't from each color. And I guess I could also compare the coloring agent to other stones that have the same one - I think it's tin, I could compare it to other stones with tin and see if there are similarities. (Coloring agents tend to be elemental metals, and I don't see why they shouldn't be considered for their own properties along with the stone's! If my emeralds have chrome to make them green, why not look up chrome as well as emerald?)

Absolutely!
I think one of the reasons I´m attracted so much by aquamarine is probably that the color comes from iron. I have always liked iron possibly because I´m an Aries whose planet is Mars and metal is iron. (Or probably I like it for no special reason at all!)

Oh, I could volunteer as your guinea pig. You´d just need to send me some yellow and pink sapphires first

http://www.spiritofisis.org/knowledg...s/sapphire.htm

On this page it says "Orange to pink Sapphire are known as Padparadscha." So at least in this instance the "padparadscha" is simply referring to the color of the sapphire.

If you spend some time intentionally focusing on your sapphire, you will start to notice its influences becoming more pronounced. Trust me. Even though I've worn my diamond engagement ring for years, and as such, have had it in my energy field for years, it seems to have woken up due to my focus. It's like I've found the "on" switch for the stone.

I would venture a guess that the same can be said of any other piece of jewelry that, though we might have worn it for years, we have not focused on it metaphysically yet. Those properties spring to life when they're focused on.

And I'm still working on getting a handle on my new outspokenness, lol. My goodness, I'm suddenly willing to speak my mind, to a level that I'm not accustomed.
