The Clow cards are designed by Studio Clamp, an all girl Japanese outfit: they occur in the 2 series of CardCaptor Sakura, in which they are the creation of a wizard who tried to meld eastern & western magics - there are now 2 interlinked, very PoMo Sakura sequels in progress - Tsubasa and XXXholic. I know this stuff because my son is a drooling fan: his Clow cards came from an importer via eBay, you don't usually trip over them in charity shops - if I were you, I'd grab 'em if they're still in the shop next time.
